I'm getting like 30 on the highway, but only about 14 city driving. I really dont know why -- I don't accelerate hard much at all and I normally shift before 2k RPM. I also have a slight popping in my exhaust note at idle so my opti might be heading downhill.....

Really?

I drive 1 mile, get on the highway and go 34 miles at about 72mph to work. Get off the highway and go 2 blocks to work.
Do the exact same thing on the way home. 5 days a week.
I got right at 20mpg yesterday when I filled it. As a matter of fact, I get right around 20 in winter (30* and below really) and once it warms up in summer I might get around 24.
I've had this car for 2 1/2 years and put 60,000 miles on it running the exact same trip.
Mechanically the car is perfect, and I've tuned the hell out of it.
And that's all it gets.

This is w/ the CC305 cam and all mods listed in Sig...

Gas mileage: 23 hwy / 14-17 city (depending on how I drive)
Horsepower/Torque: 337 rwhp/ 347 rwtq
Gearing: 3.42
Transmission: 6 speed
Approx $$ spent on mods: $3500

I don't drive very tame, and I don't see how you guys are getting 10 mpg w/ a stock car.

Re: LT1 Gas mileage

Gas mileage: 27 hwy / 20 city (mixed)
Horsepower/Torque: ~270-280 rwhp (estimated)
Gearing: 3.43
Transmission: M6
Approx $$ spent on mods: $650 (US dollars please)

My normal everyday driving consists of 75% highway, 25% city with a fair amount of beating the tires into submition I still pull 20mpg on average. When I get some tuning Im expecting my MPG to go up a bit.

FYI its totally not worth it to try to swap an LS1 into an LT1 car...you will spend far more doing that then you could have building a fast LT1 that gets good gas mileage! That question comes up every once in a while, do a search...

I don't think I would agree with that. People like me for example do not have the funds to drive around a huge big block getting 10mpg, but still want to have a fast car. If I didn't have a family to support it might not be as big of a deal

Interesting thread....some useful information for my future mod list.

Here's my data:
1996 SS: #309, Purchase price 29K new.
Hwy Milage: 26.2 @ Sea Level, LA to Vegas, LA to San Luis Obispo. City Milage: 17-18 moderate stop and go stuff no playing around. Nothing ever less than 15 with lots of searches for ricers to stomp @ 2500' elev. local.

330 Hp at crank, 310 Lbs. TQ. Best e.t. 13.25 (only once). Several at 13.50 which I claim as the cars daily ability. Mods that effect milage: JBA headers, coated. MAF. K&N Synthetic lubes, 91 octane Calif gas. New opti, plugs, wires really helped maintain tune.

A definite must for milage....ZAINO, 41 PSI in the BFG KDDW's
Other stuff relating to suspension upgrades in signature. My car handles really nice due to SFC, sways, PHB, TB and might contribute to consistent, predictable milage. I have attempted to modify with developing an all-around performer but not a standout in any one area. What I lack in HP might be countered in handling or safety i.e. I pass all the NHRA track rules (roll bar, 5 pt. harnesses, fire ext.) all additional fluid lines are Aeroquip braided to external engine oil cooler w/fan.
