LT1 distributor option Experts inside.

oK guys i have been driving and racing my LT1 T/A for 8yrs so I have a few opti probelms but not very many. I have been having the ignition breakup around 6500-6600. SO i short shift the car at 6400 and it ran 10.80's but i would like to fix the problem. I would also like to be able to turn 7200-7300rpms but I don't have the cash to go with Big stuff 3 or Fast XFI so I was thinking of going Delteq or LS1 conversion PCM when this came to mind. How about buy an Acell pro ram intake, install an MSD distributor in the back and run just the igniton off that. If you hookup power, ground, MSD coil and 6AL it would have to fire the the engine. I would leave the opti hooked up for the PCM. That is what Delteq and LTCC are doing right? What is a good small distributor that fits under the cowl and would work with what I am tgrying to do? Thanks Clint

Your limitation to spin over 7K is the PCM itself. The LT1 PCM will not operate over 7K rpms no matter what else you do; you will need a piggyback or stand-alone to do that. A LSx PCM may work, but I don't know.

The Delteq/LTCC just remove the Hi-voltage from the Optispark and generate the hi-voltage a different way.

Exactly my point but I don't plan on turning the engine higher than 7200-7300rpms. Right now it starts cutting out at 6500rpms on the 1-2shift and 6600 2-3shift but runs clean thru the traps at over 6500(don't have a good tach just shift off the shiftlite@6400rpms) the shiftlite comes on@ 6400rpms about 200-300' before the end of the 1/4mile, it ran 127.8mph on it's best pass so no missing there. There are people shifting stock PCM cars at 72-7300rpms so thats what I would like to be able to do also. Now I would get rid of the optispark and the whole LT1 ignition so no more blown up rotors, wet optis etc.. The thing is I am about to go to a singleplane intake and it has a hole for the distributor so this would be a good time to swap. I am looking for any input if this will work as planned? I know a few people would like this option if it would work properly. I would go ahead and throw a carb on the intake to get rid of any limiters but I don't think I need to turn higher than 7200rpms, it's only got 23degree heads and I don't want to have to change valvesprings every few races. later Clint

Delteq went out of business about 2 years ago.

What is the real problem with the PCM and 7000 rpms? Does it just carry the last cell over as the RPMs go up past 7k, or does it cut spark, or what?

I would be ok with a 7200rpm rev limit. Just need to get my opti to go that high.

Go with a dynaspark.

What about switching to an OBD2 pcm? Would you be able to spin it higher with that one?

Well for now I am just swapping to 3.73 gears, putting my Competition engineering shocks on and turning on the bottle to see what it will do. I should be able to run 140+mph before the limiter comes into play. I will keep my eyes open for a dynaspark or a good used fast setup. Later Clint

I thought Rick Abare was spinning his engine to 7800 on the stock PCM.

7800rpm on stock PCM? WTF I need to talk to that guy. LOL I don't think my little solid roller will pull much past 7krpms but i would like to see. Later
