Clarity isn't your strong point, but are you saying that your tach needle is jumping around when the key is in the "on" position, but the engine is not running?
Bad battery connections can do that
My P/up did that when I had a bad connection at the battery. Particularly when it was cold out. Only did when the engine should have been cranking but did not rotate with the key in the start position.
Sorry for my clarity, but what i meant was with Key On Engine off, Key in the run position not start. The tach will jump from 0-2000 and everything in between very erratically.
