LSx coilpacks VS MSD 6AL/Optispark combo

I think of converting my LT1 to a EFI Connection 24X conversion with the LS2coil-on-plug setup.

To all users of the EFI Connection setup, the LTCC and the Deltec how much more juice if any does the LSx multiple/coil on plug setup has over using a MSD 6AL box with the stock Opitspark or even the Accel 300??

Did you guys get any increase in driveabiltiy and/or power with the coil on plug setup?

My mechanic say that a MSD 6AL tends to burn out the Opti's cap and rotor over time and I have heard other users said that this is the case.

I switched to a delteq the other week, I noticed huge improvements in terms of smoother throttle response, no more stumbling issues, in general it just runs betters. Unfortunately, I saw no improvements in ET, but not having the car stumble anymore when cruising made it worth it. As far as "juice" I noticed no difference in my voltage usage when I made the switch.

Honestly, they are two different things meant for two different purposes.

The LSX conversion completely eliminates the optispark. This has tremendous advantages over the Delteq/LTCC which only eliminate the high voltage portion of the optispark.

On an LT1, the 6AL doesn't provide much in terms of an advantage over the stock ignition system.

One reason I considering the EFI Connection conversion is that I want to set the stage for my eventual 383/396 LTx stroker rebuild. Even though I the MSD advertises more spark energy than the stock ignition, I was told that the LSx ignition is great for high rpm, nitrous and forced induction applications. I want know exactly how much more spark energy the LSx setup has over the stock LTx ignition and also what is the energy advantage it may have over traditional capacitive discharge Ignition(CDI) systems like the MSD 6AL and the Accel 300+.

The major advantage of the 24X kit is being able to use the LS1 pcm. It's a much better system to tune with. If you plan on a supercharger or turbo down the road a 24X system is the way to go.

If you are only running NA and under 7000 rpm than the EFI Connect will be a huge waste of money. Believe me, Ed Wright has been yelling at me for a week now about this.

The fact is it's overkill for 95% of LT1 builds.

Clarfication - The Delteq system does not use 8 LSx coils. It uses a set of 4 dual-tower waste spark coils from the Olds Northstar engine. Interesting that someone just installed a Delteq. The company has not been active for about 3 years. Are they back in business?

Tell me that next time your replacing your opti. The 24X system can be done for not much more than the other systems out there if you play your cards right. I got my coils, pcm, and did my own harness. I know not everyone can get stuff for free and do their own work.

I don't know the difference in spark energy and even doubt that there is a difference. The major difference in a multiple coil setup V a single coil setup is time to saturation... ie how fast the coil is ready to make the next spark event. It just seems logical that a multiple coil system can provide spark accurately at a much higher rpm.....they each have far less work to do than a signle coil setup.

I have an MSD 6 box with an otherwise stock ignitions. Fires the plugs fine at 6,700rpm with 26psi of boost and a 150hp nitrous shot. IOW, I agree with "overkill" theory.

I run and love the LTCC setup, it was THE best mod i did to this car. I am still using the opti that GM put on the car in 1996 with out one issue from it. The opti gets a bad wrap but its just alot of band wagoners throwing in thier 2 cents and really dont know.

The LTCC uses 8 coils and look pretty good with out too much work.

I'm not sure but their website is up. http://www.delteq.com/products_opti.htm

I'm familiar with Delteq, and their website. Problem is, about 3 years ago, the only remaining member, JC Hyde got sick and disappeared, never to be heard from again. There is no tech support, no products, no replacement parts, and the system had a defect that mysteriously prevented it from working in some vehicles.

That's why is seemed odd that someone said they just installed a system. I was curious whether that individual had bought a used system, or somehow found a new system. Also seemed odd that they didn't know the Delteq was not a coil-per-cylender system, and did not run the LSx coils.

I've been involved with "opti elimination" kits for 12 years, starting with the Electromotive SDI/Opti-Eliminator, designed by the same individual, and riddled with as many problems.

Don't get me wrong, it's a phenominal system. But right now I can't see myself spending over $2000 for a heads and cam swap on a stock block.
