LPE DS and Spohn TA a little problem
LPE DS and Spohn TA a little problem
Asking if anyone has had this trouble with the LPE driveshaft and Spohn torque arm.
I had the TA first and just installed the LPE driveshaft, and the driveshaft is rubbing the safty loop on the torque arm. Has anyone had this problem, and if so what did you do?
I was thinking of putting the front on jack stands and putiing a jack under the safty loop and jacking it up try to bend it. But would that weaken the weld or the safty loop in general?
Thanks

Sounds odd.... isn't the LPE DS 3.5"? I had a 3.79" ACPT extra-heavy duty CF DS in the loop of my Spohn TA (when I had the original "slider" design) with no problems. What front mount do you have? Is is the one that is dropped to clear the LT y-pipe?
Hello Fred, I have the Long tube design with the tear shape design. I also couldn't fit my finger inbetween the driveshaft and loop. Steve Spohn told me to put a jack under the loop and jack it up. Well his weld are pretty good cause i was just jacking up the car. Well after some noises which was probably the metal it did move some. I can now get a finger inbetween. But my question is when i lower the car off the jack stands what will the clearence be? I do not have lift so i can not inspect the clearence when it is on the ground and level ( ride highth). What would be a safe clearence, so they do not rub.
Now i'm thinking the driveshaft and loop should not move while driving, so the finger clearence should be good? Correct?
Would the drivesshaft have any reason to move up or down? And if so how much?

I'm having the exact same problem you are. I have the older style Spohn torque arm and a Lpe driveshaft. Are you having clearance issues on the top or bottom of the safty loop.
I have maybe a quarter of an inch of clearance between the bottom of my driveshaft and the bottom of the safty loop, and thats with the rear supension fully loaded
I've actually been thinking of cutting the safty loop and tossing it. Especially after I drove it and went over the crest of a hill alittle to fast and i heard it hit
now my driveshaft has a scratch around it.

Here's a picture of my original design Spohn arm, with the original design (not the LT or Mufflex 4" option) front mount, the DS loop, a 2-3" into 4" Mufflex IM pipe connector and a 3.79" ACPT CF DS. The DS is perfectly centered in the loop. The car is sitting on a lift on all 4 wheels in that picture.
Mine has the Longtube style front mount, is it possble that the tranny mount could be bad a causing the rear of the tranny to sag and throwing it off center.

Re: LPE DS and Spohn TA a little problem
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm having a similar issue. I just bought a custom aluminum shaft from PST and I noticed that the front torque arm bolt is rubbing against the driveshaft. Loop clearance is O.K., its the bolt that goes through the front spherical rod end and connects to the bracket on the tunnel brace. Any ideas?
