gear lube prices
gear lube prices
Yesterday after work I stopped at AutoZone to get Mobil 1 gear lube, Felpro gasket, and RTV so I can change the differential fluids. AutoZone only had one quart priced @ $6.99 and knowing I had to go to the dealership for the additive I thought I would stop by a Kragen's and get the other quart of Mobil 1. When they rang it up it was $8.99, I was shocked. I went to my truck and got the AutoZone receipt and took it to the store manager and expressed my opinion. She ended up giving me a credit for the $2.00 difference plus 5%. How can two stores that compete for the same sales be so far apart in price. It is the same with Fram products. AutoZone never used to be my choice of auto parts store but they are starting to shine in comparison. Does anyone else have any price stories or things we should beware of?

I work at Checker on the side (which is the same as Kragen and Schuck's for those who don't know) and you're completely right about the pricing. Checker does raise the price on some things, but thats because they don't think that most people will even know the differnence. On top of that, they want to be able to advertise their "we beat any competitors price by 5%". On the other hand, I have a friend who works at autozone, and he said the same thing. Some of their prices are low, and some are higher for what seems to be no reason.
All in all, both companies are just trying to make a profit, and the best thing to do, especially if buying something rather expensive is to price around and make one company beat the others price.
On a side note (my opinion)- Autozone also has really ****ty customer service, and since I like dealing with people, wouldn't work at autozone if my life depended on it. Sure their prices are a little better on small stuff, but if I have to wait three times as long to get it because all of their employees are behind the counter dicking around like they are every time I go into an autozone
, where's the savings.....My time is worth more to me.
