Is a loud fuel pump bad?

I just noticed since I change my optispark that my fuel pump is damn loud as ****, makes an air pressure kind of noise? Is this normal or a sign mine might be getting ready to go?

I've got a buddy with a 3.4,and his was going out,and he said the louder it got, it seemed to get worse.

So i would guess yours is on the way out.

Heard is a MAJOR PITA though on a Fbody.

yeah that's a sign of a fuel pump goin bad, but doesn't mean it's on it's last leg.

you're talkin about the noise sounds like when you turn your key over to run but not start it, that 'whine'?

You'd freak if you heard my T-rex pump. It's not bad, just extremely loud.

thats interesting. Now that this is mentioned and i think about it, the only time i ever noticed the mechanical whine noise it makes was only after i knew the pump was/is starting to crap it self. I guess this is true, i never heard of this symptom before, only the others, and thats how i already know its diein.

Yeah it's a pretty common symptom and about the most accurate from what I've read.

My fuel pump does it too, and 20,000 miles later, it still works! I'd say there is nothing to worry about.

Do you mean yours does the noise when you turn the ignition on?
everyone's does that, but the combination of that exagerated priming noise and the low mechanincal buzz/whine at idle with my windows up is what i think gives clout that this is a symptom.
adding to that what Greasepunk just mentioned, it seems that its true.

Mine makes an annoying noise too, and it's highly suspect.

I'm not talking about that high pitched noise that is common with these cars (sounds kind of like a that noise from a tv?), but a lower pitched noise that will drop a little if there is a sudden load on the electical system (fans).

Some people say that it's just the way they are though, some are louder than others. Since I've tested mine and it builds pressure fairly slowly, I'm going to replace it anyway. But I won't have results for a few months yet.
