Losing power up top?

I got a cam, but no headers... I think this is maybe because of the choking exhaust and hoping its nothing else. Anyone else ever do this? Cam THEN headers?

Chris, did you get new valve springs? Are your rockers set too tight maybe? Did you get a tune for the new set up?

Got new valve springs, rockers to tight... wouldn't tight rockers knock against the valve covers? I dynoed 302rwhp pulling to 5450... never got a chance to do a pull to 6k... hrm

got a tune from Ion

When I was taking my car back to stock I put stock manifolds back on my car and stock exhaust. The hot cam didnt pull much past 5500. Maybe none at all.

Re: Losing power up top?

I'm running P&P heads w/ the LT4 hot cam and stock manifolds and my power feels EXTREMELY LOW. Like almost stock low. I spent all my money on the internals so i couldn't afford headers, i think that it's slowing me down BIG TIME, i have yet to prove it though.

Possible the valve springs are worn out? How old are they?

Re: Losing power up top?

Its your manifolds. You are probably right on par for a car with just a cam and no headers. I would say with that cam probably you should put out about 340 rwhp if you had headers. People with stock cars have gained 20rwhp with headers i would say adding a cam makes headers that much more important probably to the tune of 30rwhp or so. You won't believe how much headers helps a stock LT1 breathe up top let alone a cammed one.

Re: Losing power up top?

Thats what I thought...

I only trapped 104 with this setup, but I could only rev to like 5500... my tach was a lot farther off then I thought... :-/

Think revving to 6k would improve my trap at all?
