Look What I Found When Changing My Oil...
That piece that ENRKyle20 posted does look pretty identical to what it is. Can anybody get a measurement of that piece?
So I shot an e-mail to Chad Golen and he said that he isn't sure either but that it might be a piece of the timing chain if I have a roller timing chain, which I do (Cloyes). I'm figuring that he is talking about one of these parts
It certainly does look like it could be although I cannot recall if those links are solid all the way around or if two ends butt-up to one another like the "mysterious piece"
. Due to the nature of the timing chain and the environment that it is in I would figure they would be solid all the way around so they cannot open up from the gear teeth. If anybody has one lying around not installed, can you measure that piece too so I can see if it is the same?

The bushing that helps center the main seal housing does look like the picture. Having a dimension really helps. I measured the one on a block I have sitting around and this bushing is .450 O.D.
A cap screw does go through the center. The bushing is installed on the passenger side of the block, just above the pan rail at the corner of the seal housing. It should fit into the hole there with a slight interference press.

Yes it can be. I did it 2 weeks ago to get the float out the fell of my oil level sensor. Hardest part was getting the Y pipe off. If you have a Chiltons it explains it very well. I read it after I was done and realized it was exactly the way I did it. Other wise search " dropping the oil pan" I started that thread after not getting results I wanted from a search. Let us know what you find. If you drop your pan dont forget to remove you oil level sensor first.

I took this pic today. These are a few things that were mentioned. These are all stock 1995 LT1 parts..

Some oil level sensors also have a round piece at the end. I wonder if that's what it could be.

Yeah, it is metal and was stuck to the magnet. And thanks for all of those pics! Doesn't quite look like any of those though... It still looks most like the locator for the rear main seal although I haven't a clue how it could have gotten in there. I guess it could be a random piece from when I built the engine up ???
I think I'm going to keep driving and see how things go. I have already driven a few hundred miles since finding it (and who knows how many thousand before) and it seems fine.....
