A look at my opti

pulled all the plugs and plug wires off and this is what I found when I removed the coil wire from the opti. Any idea what the red and black plastic is from?

and the rest of this came out of the coil wire.

So should I go with an MSD cap and rotor or Accell or an opti rebuild kit from thepartsladi? Money is tight.

It could be what is left of old wire insulation. Does it really matter if you are replacing it?

Got my cap & rotor today along with the plug wires.
Now if I only knew where to start... By the way the #5 plug with shorty headers is a pain in the ***. I broke 3 new ones before i got it in there and then the last turn I heard that familar sound of the plug cracking yet again. Doesn't feel cracked and im not about to pull it out to check it either. It almost seems like it would be easier to just remove the headers just to change out the plugs. So where should I start , draining coolant and removing hoses?

Do I have to remove the line going to the p/s pulley or can i just remove the two bolts and be able to move it out of the way enough?

Not sure what the red was but i know when i pulled my opti to change it. It had an msd cap and rotor on it. There was red pieces on the inside from where the rotor was hitting the body of the opti

Pull the 2 bolts that mount the PS to the bracket and move it out of the way.

I'm having trouble getting the harmonic balancer off, I have a 3 finger puller but the bolts it came with dont match up with the ones i took out , and those are too thick to go through the puller, any ideas? Also I've got two felpro waterpump gaskets , what kind of sealant do I need and where do I apply it?
