no, im 28, but you and your repeated bashing of Lloyd makes you look about 3. who cares what everyone else makes? your car has problems, why not fix them instead of pointing the finger at something that isnt a problem. i bet if you fixed it that the car would run better then everybody elses stock shortblock car because you have a stroker, what do you bet? youve asked the ****ing question a million ****ing times. are you trying to get statistics from every heads/cam car in the world before you figure out its not the heads and cam? ITS NOT THE HEADS OR THE CAM! ITS YOUR POS CAR!

everyone is sick of your posts on this topic, im just the only one who is a big enough ******* to say it. now go work on your car. it obviously needs it.

I never bad mouthed his heads, I gave my dyno numbers, told people something might be wrong with the car but I dont suspect anything is. Then said thats up for you to decide. Seems to me that whoever is reading the post is the one deciding whether or not my problems are the heads or not. Quit putting words in my mouth.

Runs like ****? Is that not a big assumption? You dont know what track times/mph I've ran. Track times/mph > dyno queen.

Anyways, be civil if you are going to attempt to attack me anymore so the post doesn't get locked.

Thats exactly what I said I did. Acknowledged something was wrong, and left it up to the reader to decide what was wrong, also to get some help figuring out problems, cause I know stock head cars make these numbers.

My vote would go for Lloyd. I have read over and over Phil jumping into a thread about someone wanting to port thier own heads and making it out to be the hardest thing in the world and discourage them as much as possible. I am pretty sure he even posted in one of my threads about the subject. Head porting is a skill, don't get me wrong, but it is not rocket science and should not be treated as such. I agree with those that think that the extra money could be spent elsewhere. I took my chances and ported my heads myself with minimal experience and I think they turned out pretty good. I ran a 12.04@117 last week at the track and would've had an 11 second run @ who knows basing off the comparison in the 1/8th in one of my runs that I missed fourth in. I am not saying that this is on par with Phil or Lloyd, as I am running a 383, but I was also going that fast with my dumbass porting the heads, a crappy mail order tune, stock throttle body, fuel pump, a high-rpm miss, and half the supporting mods that greenbean has. My point is simply that you will get great heads with either of the two however, I don't think there is any magic that phil can do that Lloyd can't, oh yeah and then there is the attitude.

wow I"ve been away from the board but I have all the mods in the sig, the heads are Lloyd's resent work right now I'm having some trouble with those damb Comp R' lifters which I think should be thrown as far as possible, stupid things, I'm having to resort to setting the lash while engine is running now thats gonna be fun. I ran my car on the street with friend's wideband & got 11.8 AFR, with that AFR the tires will not hold in 3rd gear lol, so once I tune her, I should have some dyno numbers, hopefully, complementing Lloyd's heads. This will be done with GM 847 cam, I also have the LE3 cam comming in custom from Lloyd, that should see quite a bit more power even lol.

stay tooned boys!

What was your density altitude on that run? What tires? If ya could, throw your slip into that calculator I posted a few pages back and let me know what you get.

Try the PM function please. This thread is already long enough. Thanks.

If you want to compare, we have dynos for that, and there are more than enough results out there that can be found through searching to answer most any question posed without speculation. No name-calling required

Regarding camshafts, an easy 90% of my customers run shelf cams, not custom grinds of any sort. A 'custom grind' wont magically make a set of heads that didn't perform before do an about face and beat the world in my experience & we're typically talking about 5-10hp difference max when working within the same constraints. I know we've made just under 390rwhp SAE through full exhaust & vette IRS/4.10's with a little LT4 hotcam - which I'm not exactly a fan of, but the point is that most grinds are fully capable of making good power. Of course, with this new effort towards street applications, we have some new goals, one being to see consistent 420-440rwhp NA & SAE corrected packages now that we've allocated so much time for development to it. Russ' car is one of those actually, and though it is at 424/38X SAE, it's still got some major problems unfortunately. Actually, the problem is either the electrical power distribution circuits in the console (intermittent codes, losing opti signal (high and low res), no power to PCM or fuel pump sometimes, etc.), or a shortblock issue, as the thing was suddenly blowing an inordinate amount of smoke out of his breather every time the car hit the RPM range where the problem is. We obviously hope it's an electrical problem, but at this point I'm leaning towards a ring installation/breakin issue. Too bad really, as I was hoping that would be one of the first ~440rwhp SAE cars that still pulled 6th gear from 1300rpm. Maybe next time

Regarding pricing, we DO currently have a head package that is pretty affordable ($1300) for the hours, components, and machinework put into it, that is easily on par with 95% of the "stage 2" or "fully ported" LT1 castings out there when it comes to power potential. Of course, that's just one predefined 'package' - any amount of work with any component is usually doable, so if someone wanted to run a certain part, match another head, etc. then all they need to do is request a quote. Aside from that, we've actually got a pile of new cam grinds to go with some valvetrain packages that should save people $, and ensure that they're using the correct parts for their individual setup. Along those same lines, since young guys are so budget conscious, we've got a package we're working on that should end up in the $1500 range including a camshaft and (key word coming up ..) consistently make 380+rwhp SAE. Most likely this will include a grind we're testing in the low 220deg intake duration range - so it should be interesting .

Stay tuned for our GP & we'll see you guys at the track .

-Phil

only porter ive had any dealings with is phil.

i posted on here that i was porting my own heads and had poked through into a water jacket and he replied and told me who i could get to weld it up. so kudos to phil for that.

so one more vote for AI heads...plus, its only a thirty minute drive for me!

What kind of heads are the 380 - 400 plus RWHP numbers being made with? What are the valve sizes? I'm wanting to get my stock castings done and go with bigger valves (2.00/02 & 1.60).

LT1s, Russ has stock Valve sizes.
Last I heard, Phil was getting better numbers from LT4s than AFRs...

Children Children...man you guys fight like little girls, I didnt read the whole post but this is pathetic.

BTW anybody read about the most important post in here from Joe Overton on page 4??

""I think theres a misconception that HP is king...when in reality torque is king......though dyno's seem to be the hot selling point with heads these days and the flow bench bonanza on whos getting the best numbers..I'll throw a lil bone out for everybody to think about....

4 years ago I ran 10.95@124 mph n/a in a 3574lb car with a head that only flowed 255 on the intake 198 on the ex. and they quit at .550 ...... so the number games is cool but it comes down to combination....Its not just the heads..its not just the cam..its not the boltons ..Its all the above.. Its a combination..As I said before all things being the same and nothing more than swapping heads around from different head porters.Either one makes more torque or two it makes more hp ..depending on the porting style...but on the track I doubt it would be much difference if any at all.. I think both mentioned here port heads well...And theres no need to put one above the other...since thats what seems to be happening here... Neither one ported my personal heads so basically I'm just posting from the outside looking in as it were..
""

I dont know about you, but I think thats pretty DAMN impressive, and considering who he is, listen to what he has to say about flow means SH**, DYNO #'s mean SH**. So until the day we start racing flowbenches and dynos, forget about those numbers and focus on track times, or at least power under the curve on a dynosheet, not peak power....PLEASE!!

What Joe didnt mention about that combo that ran the 10.95 is that it was on stock rods, $19 pistons, and a 2piece seal cast crank with a RMS adapter for 1piece.

Also, get this...same exact cam in that engine...is in his 377 today!

So once again, forget about head flow#s, and all that other paperwork, and focus on combinations, and learning from who knows what works best with what, cuz it obvioulsy means something.
