Lifting engine with cheery picker

I need to lift the engine in my 1995 firebird to replace the oil pan gasket. Where to I attach to on the engine? I don't want to take stuff off the engine to hook onto it. Could I maybe wrap a strap or cable around each exhaust manifold?

I hooked one chain to the alternator bracket and took the coil off the driver side and hooked a chain on that stud. Was easy enough and had no problems.

I replaced my oil pan gasket (97ss 383). Seal failure on the front leaked alot of oil. Jacked the car on 4 jack stands. Front jack stands were placed @ lower A-arm inside pivot point. I assembled a chain span diagonal from rear passenger head to front diver head (3/8 bolts). Moved the picker in from the side. Lifted the engine to get the motor mount bolts free. I could not remove the pan (I have a Canton aftermarket) due to the engine only moved about 2 inches up pivoting on the rear M6 trans mount. It was enough to get the pan loose to get a new pan gasket on. I used Permatex grey on the front lip and corners after surface prep with brake cleaner. Hope this helps. B.

Not sure what you're planning on doing, but you could use acc. bolt holes on the ends of the heads, one up front and in the back. Could also use longer intake manifold bolts.

Changing the oil pan gasket in the car is easier if you unbolt the motor mounts, jack engine up from bottom by the dampner, take out the back two k-member bolts, and then loosen the 4 remaining bolts. This will give you enough room to remove the oil pan completely clean the area and install a new gasket. Cherry picker will work too, but the legs of the cherry picker will be under the car and make it difficult to move around.
