Lets have a discussion

Lets say someone has a 96 z28 auto with a stock cube 350ci LT1 with mild ported heads,1.6rr,30lb inj and a cam that shifts at 6700rpms and makes 390rwhp.

Now lets say you take that engine remove the 30lb injectors and throw it into a 95 z28 auto with basically stock everything like fuel pump, injectors stall and a tranny that shifts at 6k rpms from a madz28 power tune.

Would the above engine run on stock injectors and pump? would it drive normally or be drivable at all? Would there be any possibility of engine damage occuring from the stock injectors and fuel pump?

And would that Cam be way to big for a stock tranny that shifts at 6k rpms?

The tranny tuning is in the pcm same as the engine tuning, keep the tuning from the unmodified car and BEST case what you are suggesting would run like complete crap drivability wise not just lack of power, and damage to the engine is a real possibility.

And this is because it is over cammed for the power range right? So if one was to install lets say an lt4 hotcam then it would basically run pretty normal?

It would run rich. Maybe even to the point of washing down the rings...

Wait, are you transferring the reprogrammed PCM or leaving the stock one in the 95? If it's the reprogrammed one, then you could be running terribly rich even on the hot cam. The stock injectors are screwing you....why not leave the 30lb ones?

Hotcam, stock PCM, and stock injectors should run "decent" on the MAF. If it has to go to speed density due to MAF failure...then it will run rough. It may even run a little rough until it gets into closed loop on a cold startup.

I don't think you will be in as bad a shape with the above than with mismatched injectors programmed into the PCM.

I do think you should get it programmed if possible....and upgrade the injectors. You could be close to going beyond a safe duty cycle on stock injectors with the hotcam.

I'm not too sure about that.

Assuming 350 flywheel hp with the hotcam and using Injuneer's injector/hp formula gives....

350flywheelhp x 0.07 = 24.5#

That's just past the stocker's limit.

I'm not saying he is in dire straights. There are plenty of people on here who have run stock injectors with the hotcam. For my setup, with the CC503, I decided it was just too close for comfort. That's why I went with the 30lb SVO's(plus I wanted a little room for more without having to worry).

I think the stockers are actually rated for 24.8 pounds per hour. In any case, Injuneers formula assumes a 85% duty cycle and you can easily go to 90% without problems.....the stock injectors aren't stressed in this situation.

Re: Lets have a discussion

So if the engine see's x amount of air coming into the motor and the computer is tuned to give it Y amount of fuel to make 390rwhp how are you going to keep the engine from running lean with stock pcm and injectors?? We cant control how much air comes is so what happens if the injectors cant give it enough fuel?

It runs lean, detonates and maybe cracks a piston... or 2.... or 3......
