Talking AZ Fbody 1st meeting results and next meeting info!!

To all AZ F-body Association members:

I. This is an update that is to serve as a reminder about what we need for the next meeting, as well as what was missed in the first meeting.

First off, our official name is: ARIZONA F-BODY ASSOCIATION.

We now have 90 members total, and 5 or 6 sponsors.

II. Our next meeting will be Sat. July 27th from 1:45pm-3pm (maybe lasting a bit longer) in the Phoenix Public Library in downtown Phoenix, one block south of McDowell on Central Ave. It will be in the Lecture Room on the 4th floor, and is capable of accommodating 50-70 people. I know we had tight quarters for the last meeting, but we won’t have that problem this time. Please plan on arriving at 1:45pm…we had to many people arriving late disrupting the meeting. If you have a prior engagement then it is understandable. But please be 15 minutes early if possible.

Because I have to reserve a bigger room, I will require two dollars per member, not per guest, upon entry. Everyone needs to come to the front to sign in upon entry. Please do not forget a pen and pencil to take notes, as I noticed a lot of people forgot them last time.

I ask that you RSVP to me no later than July 20th. VERY IMPORTANT. The reason the room was over-crowded for the meeting was because 15 people didn’t RSVP until the last few days.

Feel free to bring girl-friends/wives/husbands (life partners) or others who may be interested in attending the meeting. They are more than welcome. THIS CLUB IS NOT LIMITED TO F-BODY OWNERS. F-Body enthusiasts who don’t own an F-Body welcome as well.

III. Anyone who would like to run for any board positions must nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else at the next meeting, or send me an e-mail with the position(s) you would like to run for. No one is limited to running for just one position. If 2 positions interest you, then please run for 2. If you win both then you have the choice to pick one or the other.

The following is a list of board positions we need filled, and the roles expected of the positions:

1. President- To run the meetings, delegate work, communicate with outside organizations, and make sure that all the other positions are doing their jobs.

2. Vice-President- To take over for the President in meetings or events if the President is not in attendance, be more hands on than the President in making sure others are doing their jobs, and to take care of miscellaneous items that need attention

3. Secretary- To take notes at meetings, and send members reminders from the meetings

4. Historian- To keep track of our database of members which contains info about each member such as car info, jobs, contact info, etc…, to keep a historical chart of major events, and to keep a performance data base for members to compare dyno #’s, track times, and mods.

5. Videographer/Photographer- Someone to take pictures and get footage of events

6. Webmaster- To maintain and update the website, and also appoint moderators

7. Public Relations- Someone who is the contact person for new members or those who want information on the club, for getting our club name out to the state of Arizona, for signing up new members, and will work with the advertising chair when it comes to promoting events for the club.

8. Advertising- Someone in charge of lining up advertisers for the website, must work hand in hand with the webmaster, getting sponsors for our club (outside of the local performance shops, as we already have a full plate of performance shop sponsors) i.e. discount tire, restaurants, etc…This person will work with the advertising chair when it comes to promoting events for the club, and is a liaison between the board and club sponsors

9. Treasurer- Someone to keep track of and collect membership fees, payments for events, budgeting, and collection of funds for t-shirts, etc…

IV. At the meeting, the discussed quite a few things, which include (in no particular order):

a. The differences between active and in-active members, and how active members will pay less for events than in-active members and will receive better discounts from our sponsors. We will require that active members attend a certain number of meetings, and other requirements to be decided later.
b. This association will in no way tolerate or permit the use of the club for the promotion of street racing. During official meetings and club events, street racing will not be discussed, and our official club position will be to frown upon it. What you do in your own time is your own business, but keep the street racing out of the club. We also have stated that during caravans/cruising where the club is involved, we will not promote racing or wreck-less driving of any kind. When the club is involved be on your best behavior and drive in a responsible manner.
c. We discussed some of the contacts we have so far, and some members so far can help us out with T-shirts/logos/stickers, and others are giving us assistance with the creation of an AZ-F-body website. The two people helping us so far are Jason Achee and Matthew Kelly. Their websites can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/az3/azfbody and http://www.azfbody.com/AZFBA.htm . Nic Desjardins has also agreed to maybe give us a hand with some server space, which the club will reimburse him for. If anyone else has connections for message board software or servers, please let me know.
d. We will provide members with laminated cards with AZ F-body contact info so that we may keep them in our cars and pass them on to fellow f-body owners we see on the road.
e. We discussed about having the sponsors get together and negotiate on a flat labor rate for all of our club members so that we don’t get involved in labor price wars
f. The idea of having yearly events thrown where each sponsor picks/creates his own event to be the official sponsor of.
g. We will have a technical question forum on our website, where people will ask questions that will be discussed in our meetings.
h. We will set dues at a later date to cover website costs and the costs of renting a meeting room, and to have members pay for events and souvenirs on an individual basis.
i. We had an introduction of our sponsors and what they can do for us/what types of products they carry.
i. Our sponsors are:
1. AZ Tech Autobody
2. Xtreme Motor Sports
3. Street Lethal Performance
4. Pro Dyno
5. AZ Power and Sound
6. Possibly my internet car audio company as well
j. Everyone will be required to carry a member card which will be used by our sponsors as means for identification
k. How this club will not be turned into a pissing contest, and we will act as the more mature group when participating in outings with other clubs.
l. Setting aside a days where a bunch of us will get together and do some of the “free modifications” on our cars, and we will help with the installation of group purchased items
m. We will be able to use this club for networking, and we have members with a wide variety of mechanical experience, job types, and connections
n. The new laws which may affect us in the future, such as the discontinuation of DOT slicks and drag radials, as well as cruising violations
o. Club meetings will be every month until we have elected a board and established rules, at which point we will then make meetings every other month

Lastly, if this club is to work, we are going to need help from one another, and most importantly, we need people to volunteer some time and effort. We have 9 board positions to fill, and I’m hoping we can get many of you to consider volunteering for at least one position. We will figure out a way to compensate board members for their extra time and effort (i.e. better discounts with sponsors, cheaper memorabilia, cheaper events, etc…). Having a position on the board shouldn’t take more than a few hours a month, and I only want people who are serious about helping this club rise to the top to nominate themselves or someone else for a position.

Please do not send responses back to this email address, as it is my work address. Send any questions you may have to mverbin@aol.com

I thank the sponsors for attending our first meeting, as well as everyone else who showed up. We are off to a great start, and should have even more members show up for this next meeting.

About 20 of us went to the Pavillions after the meeting and had dinner together, and participated in the car show as well. If you would like to participate in a large F- body caravan across our highway system (very fun), as well as being in the car show, please keep your calendars open after the meeting. We will leave between 3:15 and 3:30 for the pavilions, arriving at around 4pm, parking our cars, and getting something to eat. There are a ton of places to eat at the Pavillions for not a lot of $$$$, and I don’t think anyone had complaints about finding food. There are 7 or so restaurants all within walking distance from the car show.

Until next time,

Matt Verbin

Verbs, and all...

One of my Camaro buddies sent me this thread link. As far as the web site goes, (not to sound conceited but) I'm pretty good at web graphics. Very good in fact. Check out Rejuvesite.com for all the stuff I've made. I can make killer logos and even Flash if you're interested.

I'm not really into scripting and forums and stuff but if you can find another developer to do all that stuff, I can work with them to come up with a great looking page.

Let me know if you're all interested.

Yeah, we definately don't want any grandma cars running around with us! The only thing that car is good for is to take us out drinking some nights! j/k He knows who this is...

I can vouch for his awesome website abilities... he is the one who created my site for me. As you can see by his other sites, he has some really good ideas and can definately make our site look great.
