Lengthening MAF wires??

I am playing with a different intake setup and the wires are not long enough to reach the MAF sensor where I have located it.

I have followed the wires all the way back and there is no slack at all. So, I need to lengthen the wires to make it work.

Will this be good or bad?

The MAF works on resistance values so I would make sure whatever you are extending it with has no extra resistance. Dont solder the wires, just use butt connectors etc.

you can buy MAF extentions. just search around on some of the venders listed on this site and you will find one. try www.ls1speed.com first.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't butt connectors be MORE resistance than a solid solder joint?

its my understanding solder creates resistance because current must travel thru it and the copper wire is a better conductor than the solder is... some solder is said to carry more current but i think its more expensive. if you use a but connector then you have the copper wire touching the copper wire so there really shouldnt be any resistance there at all.

Interesting...

I dunno, I'd just much rather have my important connections soldered...no corrosion or anything else of the sort to interfere.

Hopefully we can get a definitive answer...but I'm not aware of solder causing much resistance.

One thing about MAF: Isn't the resistance measured in the METER and not in the WIRING

I say just solder the **** and put heat shrink tubing over it.

lets say the MAF has and output frequency of 1500 mhz but once you solder the wires youll increase the resistance and knock down the output frequency of 1500 mhz to say 1200 mhz which will undoubtably throw off the calibration a little.
