Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

The SLP headers are 409 stainless. The rust on them is typically surface rust only. It's a characteristic of 409. They surface rust and then last for many years afterward. I'd take even cheap stainless over mild steel any day. 304 is even better, but I'd really like a set out of 321. I'll never afford that though.

man that price is retarded, no way would anyone in their right minds pay almost 900.00 for exhaust oh man the things you can do to your car on 900.00 and gain a whole lot more than going from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 headers the power you would pick up would never compaire to that damn price, or am i the only one who sees things realisticly? Sorry Kooks not wanting to beat down on you but i just didnt like what i saw thats all!

To each his own, but I sell LS1 customers 900 dollar headers all the time. And if we have to custom make you headers, plan on spending 1500-2000 like The Highlander did. These prices are very normal for quality headers.

Iv'e heard good things about Kooks headers, but I'd like to know why I should buy these instead of the other brands.
Thanks, Rick
Yes, these headers shouldn't require any vehicle modifications! They'll even work with the stock a/c box (which is pretty good for this sized header).

We run stepped headers on almost all of our race stuff. They definitely make more power than normal straight tube headers.

Any idea of similar coatings?? better coating than the polished silver? i don't care if they are white, i care that they are the better or best coating around for heat.

I'm still debating on a few things though.. $900 for a set of headers when i have a set is to be considered...

Headers and exhaust give very good gains when supercharged/nitrous.. but i'm debating if its really a difference as i have not seen much when playing with eapro.

I can tell you this. On one of our nitrous LS1's, we were running Hooker 1 3/4 straight headers with a 250 shot. Once we installed a set of Kooks 1 7/8 x 2 we picked up 4 mph IN THE EIGHTH!! The difference they made was huge! The key to making nitrous cars run, is getting the exhaust flow out.

You are also buying Kooks reputation. Price is high, but in this case you get what you pay for it seems.

WOW!!!! you have to be kidding me... Swear by it?

The thing is that i am still using the borla 3" andi have NO plans on changing it...

Is that black coated??? I have my heads and pistons fully coated so a lot of heat will be going out of those headers...

Let me know i'm starting to get interested.

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

Once I get some money I'm definetly picking up a set for my LT1, and I want them coated! I have FLP's & they are very nice headers but on the collector, if you drive a lot you will start to have rust developing and coating comming off, just too much heat soak, when the engine is cooling down, all the moisture goes to the bottom (car is off) and start to rust away if its not stainless.

When I baught my headers, I would pay a lot more just to have a Long tube version in stainless avaliable to me, I also owned a set of SLP headers and although 409 stainless, I had them coated and they never rusted, way better then mild steel.

I'm on the same boat.. as soon as i get a few $ im getting a set... Now the question is... would they hurt in the part throttle response area?

I swear! I personally believe the 3 1/2 collector has the most to do with this. That is a BIG opening, and simply lets a LOT of exhaust right out. So if you get them, be sure to get the big collectors.

There will be an aluminized y pipe available for the 3" collector versions that should fit right up to your borla.

I've never ordered a set of mild steel Kooks headers, I always get stainless. So I couldn't tell you what kind of coating they come with, what color, etc. I can find out for you monday if you like?

Do you want coated mild steel, or coated stainless steel? If you want the stainless versions coated, I'll probably have them done locally at Polydyne. If you want the mild steel versions, I'll have them coated from Kooks...

They shouldn't hurt part throttle at all... You have 1 3/4 right now, correct? Well the beauty of these headers is like I stated earlier. You have the velocity of 1 3/4 right off the heads, and the flow of 1 7/8 after the step. So they should have about the same midrange you have now, but with more top end.

I'm placing my order this coming week. Who would like a set? We're probably looking at 3-4 weeks before delivery. So that'll give you time to save the money you need to pay for them

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

I see no reason for them to develop something Hedman already makes, for a WHOLE lot less money. Damnit boy make us a 1 7/8 full length header that works with a/c and factory steering, damn is it too much to ask??? BTW I need a set of the above described headers

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

I have one of the original set of borla shorty/mid headers that were made for 93 and they hold up really well for being bare stainless, of course they went coffee in color.

I cannot say heat is a horrible issue uiner my hood. Nothing has been heat soaked or destroyed by them being uncoated.

I have seen coated FLP's--horrible, hookers nice but get destroyed if you get fluids on them while hot, dynatechs just have horrible plug access. Hope these units are nice.

I would love to jump on these stainless kooks but that is out of my price range, it is just exhuast.

PICS PICS PICS ground clearace, plug access

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

How is plug access with these? Im really considering a set of the stainless steel coated ones with the 3 1/2 inch collector. I just gotta figure out what id do for the rest of my exhaust system. I, like Highlander, am running a borla and I have a 3 inch ORP and was hoping to not have to change them out.
