With a stepped header like this, you have the velocity of a 1 3/4 header right out the valve, and the flow of a 1 7/8. I would only use a 3 1/2 collector if you are using a big shot of spray... Not sure about ground clearance...

Are any of the primary's a slip fit design?

Is the collector a slip fit design?

No, as far as I know these are fully welded.

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

Chuck, These headers will fit without hacking up my car? I really could use a set of long tubes now that the heads and cam are done. Would the stepped headers be to much for a small cam and set of LE heads. Also, what makes these headers better than a set of Hookers or Dynatechs? Do they come with a merge collector? Iv'e heard good things about Kooks headers, but I'd like to know why I should buy these instead of the other brands.
Thanks, Rick

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

what kind of coating?? i ahve black coating on my headers and i like them...

Any idea of similar coatings?? better coating than the polished silver? i don't care if they are white, i care that they are the better or best coating around for heat.

I'm still debating on a few things though.. $900 for a set of headers when i have a set is to be considered...

Headers and exhaust give very good gains when supercharged/nitrous.. but i'm debating if its really a difference as i have not seen much when playing with eapro.

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

The stainless versions come in straight stainless i believe so there's no coating which is a good thing. On my flps the coating has completely come off of the collectors and y-pipe. If i could have gone back i would have just bought a stainless header since they're not anymore expensive. Unfortunatly they didn't have any available back then .

stik6shift93,
Wouldn't the coated ones do a better job of keeping the under hood temps down a little? Don't get me wrong, I like the way the stainless ones look.

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

Good point! I'd still rather have the stainless headers though, i talked to loko performance who coats the flp headers and they told me it'd be about 3-4 weeks for my headers to get recoated plus the time it takes to ship. Kind of a pita but i'll just wait until winter comes and then send them out.
Does anybody know how well the stainless steel does compared to a coated header in retaining the heat?

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

Hmmm.....im trying to decide if it would be worth it to switch from my ported AS&M's or stay. ill be running a blown 355. hmmmm....i gotta wonder how this would flow with say a mufflex. what other "quality" catbacks would fit with the 3 1/2 inch collector? Maybe i'll fab up a true dual system!!! Now i'm gettin ideas!!!

Or you can get the stainless coated and have the best of both worlds.

Food for thought...I dont know what SS grade the kooks are made of, but the SLP shorties are stainless as well and I has a set that wasnt coated and they browned out.

Re: Kooks new LT1 Headers!!

Yep, some of the cheaper grades of stainless steel (like 409) will rust given enough heat and time.

Most guys like Kooks don't use 409 though... usually 304 SS.
