The 03-04 cobras are rated at 390 hp, underrated apparently with just over 400 in stock trim, a new blower pulley and some pcm upgrades and you add another 75hp or so but reliability goes down fast if you beat on it. The 07 Cobra is supposed to be 450hp I believe with the lightning 2V 5.4 engine.

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

This thread is getting real gay. I thought this was a forum for people who have camaros. Usually you have a sports car because you like it. I just keep reading that oh the cobra is faster, they need fewer mods.. blah blah blah. Wow a car with a supercharger and probably 100k less miles beat a z28, noone saw that coming. If GM wasnt a bunch of penny pinching assbags we could have had the same features. As for the person with the most money will win, absolutely true. I got my 94z with 84k miles for 3500.00. I have AT LEAST 10k for motor work to get about the same price as a cobra.

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

I was referring to a stock cobra. The sad thing is that if you stack a procharger onto an lt1 you're talking around 600hp easy. The cobra is struggling to push 500hp and the supercharger is supposed to be their specialty.

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

Talking about cobras being fast and knowing a little about the competition isnt gay really, the thread is about being beaten by one and thats what we are talking about and why. Comparing the cobra to a corvette isnt accurate either, the cost difference is hugh to step up to a new 04 vette. The fact of the matter is the cobra is fast and if it comes with a supercharger (with a much smaller engine than a camaro) then thats tough beans for camaro owners. Too bad gm dropped the f-body and saying what if gm did that or they did this to the camaro doesnt matter because its toast for now.

Put a procharger on an 03 Cobra and you'll see 600hp as well. Prochargers are centrifugal blowers which are a lot more efficient than the roots type Eaton M-112 they put on the Cobras out of the factory. Plus with the LT1's high compression and cast internals, it will last a very short amount of time at that power level.

The Cobras have forged rotating assembly out of the box, and thus can stand up to 500 rwhp all day long (a number which they can make on stock manifolds and without ever pulling the valve covers.)

03-04 Cobras are hard to beat stock, they trap close to 113 mph out of the box. Put a pulley on there and you have a mid 120mph car if you have the supporting bolt ons.

Just some food for thought...I consider the 03/04 Cobras to be ranked up there with the L88 Corvette and GNX as one of the baddest mother****ers to ever hit the streets, and don't be surprised if and when you get violated by one.

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

What was the last year of the Z28 and how much was it. How much is a Cobra just wanted to compare the cost. There will always be someone out there faster I just want my car to go well. So far I have 1.7 RR springs etc. headers even though there short tube and a CAI. I will be also adding in a TB bypass 52MM TB free flowing cat and a cat back exhaust. I am still looking for some 3.73's on a carrier cause my carrier with 2.73's wont take bigger gears then next step is a small 4-6 PSI blower but I want to keep the AC and all that so there is a job that might take a while. I have had the headers for about 8 months LOL I know how hard they are to do.

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

Reducedfat, unfortunately the 03-04 cobras dont last under heavy boost, we are already seeing them come in with cracked pistons. The cross bolted 6 bolt mains with forged cranks are great but they skimped on the pistons, just good enough for the 8 lbs of boost from the factory, put 16lbs and they fall apart, now, put in a great set of 8:1's in it and throw 20 lbs of boost at it - woohoooo!

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

The 03-04 Cobras are pieces of ****. 2 friends of mine are getting recall work done. One on valvetrain issues and another for an engine knock.

Race one on a top-speed run for over 30 seconds and watch what happens
Oops! Piston material everywhere...

The Shelby Cobra has the 4V heads with the 5.4L Lightning block

Maybe with a built block but you'll blow the LT1 up before you even get close to 450

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

Correct about the shelby but the factory cobra for 07 is a 2V. The 06 is a shelby.

Re: Just got bit by a cobra

The lt1 will withstand much mroe than 450hp. I know of several others that are pushing 500hp.

Lets get back to one basic point. The 02 SS or Firehawk ran high 12's to low 13's. Stock for stock, the cobra would lose in that year. They were supercharged. The GM's were NA. 4.6 compared to 5.7l isn't that big of a difference, considering they are supercharged. Then again, pound for pound, an engine is an engine. If Ford built a 5.7, I'm sure it would be exactly as powerful as a chevy. A motor is a motor.

However, I am biased to GM because I hate Ford owners. They are so snooty and arrogant, much like many Corvette owners I've met.

Tell that to the slew of stock bottom-end LT1 guys running 450 rwhp+.

I ran a 150 shot on my heads/cam Z28 years ago with stock internals. Derrick Redd is currently running a heads/cam + 175 shot on his.
