Just finished 383 stroker project - now car won't start!!! HELP!!!
O.K. - here is what I checked before I got totally pissed and threw down my tools and left the shop.
I just finished installing the new 383 stroker and vortech s-trim, tried to start, and nothing - just cranks - sounds like the timing is off because it will try to fire on the first few revolutions, but then it just free spins! I dropped the engine out the bottom with the trans exc... and took alot of time making sure it was all together right, master spline on the opti-crap was right, it only goes on 1 way, and plug wires were routed right, when the cam was installed, the dots were all lined up correctly, i don't know....
here's what iv'e found - I pulled #1 plug, it was fuel fouled, bad! I cleaned it off and tested spark, it looked real strong. this is what I suspect:
1- I installed an aftermarket msd ignition set - after it didn't start right off the bat, I disconnected it, and re-tried it. I think all the plugs may be fuel fouled not allowing it to start, seeing how after I cleaned the one, it had great spark.
or
2 - possibly a rocker arm is stuck and not closing - so it would make no compression - I don't know!!
Please Help - anyone!!!!

You may have flooded the engine and fouled the plugs. Also, when you flood an engine, you wash the oil off the cylinder walls which takes down your compression. Pull the plugs, clean and dry them off good, then try starting the car again. If you don't want to pull the plugs, try holding the pedal to the floor to allow air to come in and help dry up some of the extra fuel. At some point, you will have to pull a plug out and turn the car over to see if you've got spark.
Always...spark, fuel, compression, in that order.

YEA- I KIND OF FIGURED IT IS MOST LIKELY THE FUEL FOULING - BUT I WAS CURIOUS IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THAT PROBLEM....
I DID PULL THE # 4 PLUG AND TESTED THE SPARK - IT LOOKS GREAT! i JUST HAVE BEEN WORKING AND UNABLE TO GET BACK TO IT - I THINK MAYBE THE NEXT STEP IS TO UNPLUG THE INJECTORS AND CRANK IT FOR A FEW, TO TRY HELPING TO DRY IT OUT.
ANY OTHER SUGESTIONS????
THANKS - I'M GONNA NEED A SUPPORT GROUP SOON

Provide the details of your specific problem.. year of vehicle/engine, what has been done to the engine, what changes were made immediately preceding the no-start condition. What have you tried already to solve the problem? If you did a rebuild, is it possible you did not index the Opti correctly to the camshaft? That would throw the timing off, and is a relatively common problem. But the drive mechanism for the Opti is different for various years, so the more info you can provide about the car would be helpful.
Probably best to just start a new thread with the specifics of your problem.
