Just Bought An Lt1

I Need Help/ I Just Bought A Lt1 Camaro M6, I Just Do Not Know If It's An Slp? The Shift **** Says Slp, There Is A Bar Across The Engine That Says Slp And It's Extremely Loud! It Also Averages 10 Mpg And Has No Engine Lights On So I Took It To A Shop To See Why It Was Wasting So Much Gas And They Said Everything Is Fine! Please Help! Thanks!

Why Do You Type Like This?

SLP is a company that would take a Z28 and turn it into an SS. They did this with the LT1 from 96-97 so your car just has a few SLP aftermarket parts on it. But rest assured you own a close to factory Z28.

As for the bad gas mileage. Go get some new oxygen sensors and see if that will help the problem. They are very reasonably priced for your model year and be sure to get AC Delco parts... Bosch will not perform as well as the AC brand.

Re: Just Bought An Lt1

SLP options dont do anything to the motor, can you get some pics of the engine bay for us? But it could be more than likly a SLP Shifter, they are common among 93-02 f-bodys

as far as gas mileage
1. Check the plugs and wires
2. Fuel Filter
3. EGR valve
4. PCV valve
5. Clean air filter
6. Check the 02 sensors

*EDIT* yea i just saw that you have hooker Longtubes on the car, Defintly check if any plug wires are burned from the headers.
And the bar that goes across the motor is prolly a Strut Tower Brace made by SLP

If you're from the Chicago area don't expect gas mileage to be too great anyway. I get 12-14 most of the time with all the lights and crazy drivers. It's still good to check all the simple stuff though, maybe eek out an extra 1-2 mpg with the way gas prices are.

Just as a check, how do you drive? Gas pedal pushed half way down or all the way on every acceleration? or lightly pushed so you take a while to get to the speed limit? That made the difference between me getting 12mpg to 17mpg.

Re: Just Bought An Lt1

First time i got my car it had 1/4 tank of gas left. I freaked when i saw how fast it went down. Our car's gas guages are very innacurate. 1/4 full really is more like 1/8th full. Make sure your measuring your milage per tank of gas and per gas used (not how much gas the tank holds).

Re: Just Bought An Lt1

Apparently you bought it from a Dealer? Otherwise you would probably know what, if any, other mods were done.

If it idles smootly, i.e, no lope at all, then you probably have a stock cam, top end, etc. So as far as gas mileage, if you have good plugs, wires, 02s, etc. you probably would see an improvement in fuel efficiency. JMHO

Welcome to the site! Maintenance and repairs on 4th gen F-bodies are going to eat you alive if you pay someone else to do it. I'm guessing that your mechanic will be buying his kids braces on out plug and wire change. The good news is, you can find info on pretty much any repair on this site. I've used this as a resource to do all kinds of things that I would not have otherwise attempted.

As far as you off-road pipe, I think that vaious vendors (Jegs, Summit maybe) sell a Y-pipe that will bolt (or weld) up to Hooker LT's, but you will need a shop to connect it up to your cat back. Do a search on "Hooker" and "Y-pipe", and you should be able to find all the info you could ever want.

Good luck, and keep the shiney side up!
