Re: Journey to 300RWHP

OK aside from the hijacking this thread has some good points, but also remeber different dynos read differently. I got 300 RWHP on the setup in my sig, + a few little things, on a Mustang Dyno, but remeber the best way to tell power is by going to the track!

The things not in my sig are:
  • Synthic oil since 24K miles when I bought the car
  • My home made CAI actually contains tubes from the TB to the Filter, smooth elbow and all
  • Reloctaed AIT sensor to the filter, which actually sticks out a little below the front fender
  • !AIR, but that doesn't free up power
That's about all I can think of..

If you want power and don't care how it looks go to home depot or lowes, and get a 3" rubber plumbing elbow, I have had mine like that for the past 2 years now without a problem...

The long plastic peice (donkey dyck) hanging off the stock elbow is the air silencer, it stops a little of the sucking noise a car makes when the throttle body opens.

Hey slow.. thats a "wonderful name" for that piece

I'll goto home depot and pick up the elbow. Why would GM be worried about an air silencer on a performance car?

I am scared to goto the track with this thing. I have never raced a manual car and i heard alot of stories of busted rear ends.

1SlowFormula came from the fact that all my buddies are running 10's and 11's and to them my car is too slow because I was on one hell of a tight budget. But when I get faster I can say the formula for success was a slow process, or some crap like that...

GM like all other companies needed to make the vehicle apealing to all demographics not just the racers, hence making it quiter...

OK don't be scared, unless you get some grat beginers luck, or a perfectly preped tack you won't have to worry about it, you will be spinning to much to brake the rear. Besides cars are meant to have fun in not to be scared of.

Re: Journey to 300RWHP

Slow..

Yea i wont have any money to dump into drag slicks so i am sure i'll have plenty of spin. Does anyone sell the 1LE elbow? (probably ebay). So what should my first mod be?

I have a SLP chip and 160 termo that i will be installing soon.
I was thinking about doing the rear suspension first and then move onto the 300RWHP quest by adding:

Headers and exhaust
Roller rockers
etc..

Someone posted that i wont reach 300RWHP with smog legal headers and i think it can be done... or i hope it can be. I live in CA so smog is a big part of our automotive lives..

I still have my stock manifolds, so a smog header should be easy for you to get to 300 on, but with that next goal you have (330 RWHP) smog headers might be tight unless you plan on opeing up the motor.

Its nice and all the say you have 300rwhp, but track #'s are what really matter, can you get that power to the ground.

Re: Journey to 300RWHP

I may skip the 300HP and go for the 330HP then. I really want to do a full exhaust job on the car. I am basically playing around with this car until the motor dies.. then i'll step upto a 383. I am trying to choose my bolt ons wisely so they can be used on the other motor.

Hey buzz..

I agree with you, which is the reason i am trying to hold off on any major money spending until i finish the rear suspenstion. I have heard that changing the torque arm makes a noticable difference in how the car plants..

what you need to do is go out and get a nitrous kit, msd ignition, and run a 150 shot. you'll blow somethin eventually, if not.... BIGGER NOZZLES!!!! you'll get more then 300 rwhp and you definetly will blow somethin up, but atleast you will be having fun when you do it!

Re: Journey to 300RWHP

Never really consider NOS when i am thinking about my upgrade plans. I would much rather do it on motor alone. I would enventually like to setup upto a STS setup though.. those things are sweet!
