Jethot LT + Hooker Y Clearance issues

Have the LTs in, went to install the Y-pipe and it seems like the "dent" to clear the cross member of not in the correct spot, and puts the pipe angled up at the driveshaft when it is at the right spot.

I only have about 3/4 of an inch clearance between my header flange and the floor.

Anyone else had this problem? I dont think i could grind down the cross member enough to get this to clear, it seems like the "dent" is just in the wrong spot.

any input?

not to be a TTT *****, but has anyone else had this problem?

If they are all like this, i guess ill have a custom one made. It seems like if the place smashed in to clear the cross member was about an inch and a half to the left it would work fine.

Ya thats a problem with that installation. I just installed a set of JET HOT headers which are JET HOTS Hooker replica headers. You also have to use the HOOKER Y pipe with this installation. And as you stated the clearance in the drivers side is tight to say the least. I used the blue tipped wrench, heated up the pipe where the flat spot needs to be and using a BFH (BIG FOOKING HAMMER) I elongated the flat spot to suit my needs. It is something that apparently has to be done in order to have enough floor clearance.

Also I used my nippers to cut off the rolled edge from the cross member right next to the bolts that hold it in place, this gives an additional .300 of an inch clearance. Other than doing that and modifying the Y Pipe with the torch the installation went in fine. I backed the system up with a Flowmaster 3 inch cat back which also didn't fit real well and I am not too happy about it. My customer is but I wasn't. Seeing how Flowmaster should at least give you two tail pipes that match in length where they exit next to the rear of the car.

Mine fit with no problem. The dent was in the right spot, but I remember it being at the wrong angle. But it still worked. My system does rattle when I go like 75 though and sometimes when just ideling around.

MY dent had to be punched in a SLIGHT bit more to get it to fit. Ended up flattening at the dent until the pipe was almost oval. Clears fine now, no rattles.

My LT flanges were probably closer to the body than yours. Most of it was due to the new engine polymounts I installed.

I had to grind the crossmember lip (I beleive most people had to) and the y-pipe went in with some shoving.

It's flush with the crossmember but surprisingly I get no rattles or vibrations like I expected.

Sorry for the delay, finally got internet back.

What i dont understand is why a y-pipe specifically designed for our cars dosent fit. I mean if it was bent just a little different you could put it on with no problems what so ever

Anyway...if i took the Y to an exhaust shop could they bend it so it would clear the tranny brace? without ruining the jethot coating?

If not, how much do you think a shop would charge to build a custom Y pipe?

Yes, they should be able to bend it fine. It's impossible to make one that fits every car because every car's in a different state of repair. The motor mounts on every car vary, not to mention tiny variations in bolts, motors, flanges, and headers.
