I didn't sand mine down at all. i actually am not sure if that is where my leak is comeing from but i do know that it is leaking from somewhere and i was gonna try a clamp or something to put over the slip fit to see if the ticking goes away.

I sanded mine down slightly and slid it in with some WD40. no leaks for me, 1 year and counting.
