JBA vs. Long tubes

I am building a forged 355 motor right now and currently own a set of JBA headers however I was wondering what the best bet would be whether to sell the JBA's and buy a set of long tubes or keep the JBA

Money is not an issue, looking to get the most power out of my car.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but I do plan to put an ATI procharger on in the spring.

Thanks,

Landon

For sure get the Longtubes if you can. I dont know what kind of power your going to be putting down, but standard 1.75" LT's should do the trick, but talking ATI stuff, you might want larger 1 7/8" Kooks.

If money is no object, then as mentioned above, Kooks long tubes are a great way to go.

I know the kooks are good but seems to me pacesetter lts have the most bang for the buck what do you guys think should I get the PS LT's for less then 300 or go with the 1200 pacesetters.

Re: JBA vs. Long tubes

I had the JBA's, and they seemed to strangle my bolt-on engine at high RPM. The JBA's are a 1-5/8" primary, with a "step" design, meaning the first couple inches of each primary is a smaller 1-1/2" diameter. Good for scavenging at low RPM, but hinders flow at upper RPM. Then JBA included a weld bead around the port, to act as an anti-reversion barrier. All that was good for low RPM torque, but it seemed to limit the engine at the top end.

With a blower, I would think a 1-3/4" primary would be mandatory.

Re: JBA vs. Long tubes

I would run the headers I run. Kook's 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 long tubes 3" collectors, and the catted y-pipe. I have owned practically every set of long tubes available for lt1's and the kooks are way out of their league, as far as plug access, and ground clearance...

I plan to order same setup as you got.. But My PCM is programmed for no cats, no EGR.. So when I get the headers (with emissions) and catted y-pipe, will be enough if I just put back the air pump? I don't have to reprogramme PCM for cat right?

yes they are magnaflow cats, that have just been redesigned. Make sure who ever you get them from, you get the metallic revised version of their cats, not the ceramic defects..
