Its the fuel pump!!!
Its the fuel pump!!!
As some of you probably know I have just installed a new engine in my camaro and i have been having trouble with it dieing and running like crap. The fuel pressure has been dieing off right when i turn off the car so we know there is something wrong in the fuel system. Well, since i dont have any plates on my car i havent been driving it to any gas stations to fill it up so i have just been putting a few gallons at a time in it. Well i have been driving it around the block for a few days basically on hardly any gas, the needle was down all the way and it has been driving like absolute crap even when it was warm or cold. Well today I put more gas in it to see if it was going to make a differant and i filled it to about half a tank and now the car runs perfect. It idles steady at 650-700 rpms and the needle doesnt not move at all. It does not miss out and drives smoothly. We had it running for at least 20 minutes and no misses or studers. We were outside the car and we heard like these wierd popping noises coming from the gas tank so we are 99% sure the fuel pump is shot. We figured that since there was more fuel in it now that its not getting as hot and its not affecting it as much. Let me know if i could be wrong here, thanks, Dustin.

Re: Its the fuel pump!!!
These cars fuel pumps are cooled by gas.Run it to low and the pump will be damaged or killed quickly.I always fill up my cars at 1/4 tank religiously but today broke the rule and did run my 96z almost at e.The car never seemed to miss or sputter and I have no plans to do it again. Its a bad idea.Pumps are big pain to change but tip is to just cut access hole in hatch area rather than go thru underneath. Not sure though how the access hole would work on my vert.
