Intermittent starting trouble (with a twist)

Hi all.

I have had a strange problem for the past 2 months or so, but it only seems to show up once in a while.

Twice today, once after driving to the store and once when getting home from work, the car wouldn't start.

It only seems to happen if I turn my car off and then start it again within a minute or two. If I let it sit, it always starts fine.

I thought I solved it by tightening the clamp on the air intake elbow (it was loose) a month ago, but it returned today. The ONLY thing I have done differently is I put 93 octane in it last night (and my tank was quite low when I put gas in it). I usually just put regular Esso premium 91 in it. I may have put 93 in it the last time I did it too, but I can't remember for sure.

Normally it starts just fine.

Any ideas why starting it when being shut off for only a minute or two would cause this problem?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Intermittent starting trouble (with a twist)

121,000 kilometers I hope it's not my pump. I can probably check the pressure this weekend sometime.

After it does start normally, it runs great.

But if I start it sucessfully after it dies, it might start and run VERY weak for a few seconds, and just stumble like crazy, then it dies again.

the exact same thing happened to me ....every thing thats ur cars doing mine did...then my pump dies a few weeks later.....it still might not be ur pump but with 120k+ pumps are known to fail around there.....mine went at 72k for some odd reason

Well I'll check prices and stuff just so I know what it would cost. Thanks for the tip.

How much did it cost you, or did you do it yourself?

Also, did you noticed any high-rpm lack of power? Almost like a hesitation in the 4000+ RPM range? I'm wondering if this is a sign of failure too.

Re: Intermittent starting trouble (with a twist)

come think about it ...yes i did have a high rpm loss of power....when it acted up i couldnt rev above 2k ......i did it myself ..i got a Granateli 255lph from summit for 125...i used the trap door method tho...

also, does ur car act up more with low gas in the tank and better with more gas ...cuz thats what mine did
get ur pressure checked....i had mine check but it showed that the pump was good...if u were to get ur pressure checked do it when ur car is acting up ...
