Intake elbow's- Vortech vs. Stock
Yes, I could see a street driven car with the metal elbow getting warmer, but I have a good friend that road races and has one of the metal elbows. His rubber 1LE was collapsing under heavy throttle. All I CAN say is that during high speed driving the elbow hardly gets warm at all. I put my hand on it myself during a pit stop after a good two-hour run, because the question of heat comes in here every now and then when these elbows are brought up.

I was watching my IAT the other day on my Scanner. The IAT was just about ambient while driving(this is with homemade CAI). It crept up while idling at stop lights, but immediately went down when driving again. I built a custom fiberglass elbow for mine.

If the heat never gets much of a chance to heat the metal due to the cold air running through it, then how the hell does it get in there in the first place? It DOESN'T. If the elbow never gets a chance to warm up as hot as the engine, then you'll NEVER get that kind of heat into the intake.

There's heat in the engine bay, and it'll heat anything around that'll hold heat. Metal things will hold heat, including the new elbow. At the same time, you're blowing cold air through the inside of the elbow. As that cold air runs thru the elbow, it warms up a bit as it cools the elbow. Now I have no idea how much this heat might be slowing the car down, I'm sure it's very little. But there's no doubt that's what's happening...
