Intake elbow's- Vortech vs. Stock

Can someone with a degree in engineering or something explain to me the flow characteristic differences between the stock intake elbow and vortech elbow? Here are some pics of the diffs...

Thanks
Chuck

Is that a 1LE elbow? Just wondering if they put those stock on an SS. Anyways if it is a 1LE there isnt a whole lot of difference between that and a vortech or a trick flow.

No it's not a 1LE... and yes there is a difference because one is wide open, and the other has dividers. It looks smaller, but I'm curious to know if they did this on purpose to increase velocity? Or is it just a poor design and I should run a 1LE instead?

Thanks

I meant performance wise there isnt that much difference. I am going with a 1LE because my stock POS elbow is ripped. If you have a vortech elbow i say use it.

got another question for ya, what the diff between a stock elbow and a 1LE? just the fact the the resonator thing behind the radiator is blocked off, becuase i can do that in a bout 5 minutes with some high-strength aluminum tape?

i believe that the divider helps smooth airflow coming into each side of the TB. that is a vortech elbow (not sure if the trick flow is the same). one would think that Vortech has put a lot of R&D behind the elbow, since it comes with their SC kits and the airflow is MUCH flaster with a SC. so i would think the divider is there for good reason.

i have a vortech elbow and i like it. it cleaned up what was like an empty black space in the engine bay and replaced my torn elbow!

yea i saw that in summit today, i believe its more of appearance mod if any..if u can barely gain any hp through a bigger tb i highly doubt that will give u any...even the add for it says its strictly apperance

For the price go with the 1LE...if you're that worried about looks spend the extra $50 - $60 for an elbow that performs just the same...

The 1LE removes the reinholz (sp?) resonator as does the Trick Flow and Vortech...but at a fraction of the cost....plus the 1LE has a thicker design than the stock elbow so those worried about it ripping again, it probably won't...

Wouldn't someone have to worry about SOME sort of heat transfer with a metal elbow? Warmer incoming air is no good...

Vortech elbow ???

I am also curious about the heat transfer between the metal vortech and the rubber 1LE elbow. I have the 1LE elbow now but I powdercoted my intake manifold and valve covers translucent red and I think the elbow would look really good translucent red also. If it is going to hurt performance it can just stay black rubber.

I highly Doubt it is going to make much a difference in performance. like I said before, Vortech put a lot of R&D into their systems and anybody that knows about Superchargers knows that cool air is better (hense the need for an intercooler). trust me, the elbow gets hot, but if it was enough to worry about i do not think Vortech would supply one with their systems.

There is a difference of about 0 HP.....they both flow suffecinct for any LT1

The Vortech's only purpus if to how the boost from a VORTECH blower..... i thought that was a given

I have a 1LE elbow on my car and the only difrence I can tell is in the noise, it is louder becasue it doesn't have the silencer anymore, it sounds meaner, but it should help because the silencer isn't creating turbulance in the elbow. I am from utah and you can get ahold of me on www.ufba.org, my screen name is LT1Z.

The vortech/trickflow isnt gonna rip. Thats worth the extra money for me.

and do you guys honestly think that the air is going to heat up so drastically from the intake elbow? its only in there what, quarter of a second?

Have you heard of the 1LE elbow ever ripping? I dont think the extra $50-$60 is worth it just to have metal...not by a long shot considering gains are the same with all three (3) elbows...

I just picked up a 1LE for $45 shipped...how much are the other elbow's going for?
