installing a hot cam

My friend just got a low milage lt1 from a 97 impala. He wants to put in a Hot cam but he wants to know if he can use the stock springs, rockers and so on.

You can use stock rockers, however, than you will only get .492" lift instead of the .525" with the stock rocker arms. You will also need to replace the springs, even if you stay with the stock rocker arms.

It is always a good idea to upgrade your timing chain too with a cam swap.

Tell your friend to just buy the hotcam kit, it comes with the correct springs for the cam, 1.6 roller rocker arms, valve caps, shims, locks. The hotcam by itself with the stock rocker arms wont be as strong as it would with the 1.6 roller rockers. I would install at least a new stock timing chain or upgrade to a stronger one and install new gaskets of course.
