Installing Hooker shorties this sunday.. tips/tricks and what will i need?
Hey guys, I will be installing some hooker shorties on my car this sunday. I will start sunday morning and need it finished by sunday night. Any tips/tricks for install?
Also, what gaskets will I need? Im not sure which i need to buy. Should I buy locking header bolts aswell? I'll be doing my plugs and wires while the manifolds are off.
Im buying them used, they are alittle rusty, how much does jet-hot charge to coat? I might coat them later on, but I kinda of just want them on now.

What gaskets will I need? O2 extensions needed? 1 or 2? How long? Flat4 pin or square?
How long of header bolts do i need (locking bolts) 3/4 or 1inch?
Need to know so I can order everything ASAP

I would definitely buy brand new 02s. You should also get a better set of gaskets other than the ones Hooker sent you. Check out my sig. As fas as header bolts I would go with the Stage 8. They'll take more time to install but it's well worth it in the long run. Ceramic coating usually costs an extra $200. You also might need some fire sleeve on a few passenger side wires so that they don't touch the headers. I did my headers and exhaust about two months ago and it turned out great. I have no leaks and the Stage 8 never backed out. Good luck.
I'm running 3/4" Stage 8s and Earl's gaskets. No problems.
I had to remove the oil filter to get them on so you may want to plan on doing an oil change at the same time. Also I broke the oil pressure sender because I didn't remove it.
You will need to separate the steering linkage to get the driver side header on. That and making the AIR fitting go into the passenger side header were the most difficult parts of the install.
Be sure to soak all bolts with PB Blaster ahead of time, especially manifold fittings and y pipe bolts. I never was able to get the EGR fitting out of the driver side manifold and had to get a new one fromn the dealer.
Route your plug wires carefully especially on #6.
New O2s are a good idea and you will need to lengthen the wires or get extensions. Also some of that plastic split wire protector would be a good idea.
I had trouble making the dipstick tube fit so I ended up getting a Lokar dipstick.
Hope this helps!

Make sure you dont let the steering wheel turn with the linkage out... You dont wanna bind the wires up in there... new O2 sensors.. Just take your time and it will go smooth, You get mad, take a brake, you got two days to get it done...
I installed mine myself and didn't extend the o2s at all, didn't disconnect any steering linkage, and didn't remove my oil filter. The dipstick tube needs to be removed and then re-installed when you are finished. I had no problem re-using my stock one, except I had to cut off the mounting bracket that was on it. Go with the Stage 8s and good gaskets and you won't have any leakage problems. The header/Y-pipe union is a ball/socket fitting with the "ball" being the headers. It necks down quite a bit to under 2" opening. Take a Dremel and port these out a bit. If you don't do it now, you will just take them off to do it later.
I am a novice and had never installed headers on anything prior to this. My setups' been fine for 3 yrs now.
I did have a problem burning plug wires, went with the OVC setup from MadeForYou products and now its fine.
