Shorties allow more engine and road clearance, and, a small underdrive pulley allows the engine to rev quicker. Longtubes are great, but, the remaining exhaust is also important. ie... high flow cats, cat-back system, and electric cutout to enhance flow. (97SS 383 - D1)

Is PB Blaster superior to other penetrating oils?

One thing that I found useful is a short wrench for the number 8 bolt and I would also suggest some stage 8 locking header bolts. Do you have duel cats or the single? I have the slp duel cat shorties (should have gone with lt’s but didn’t have the money) and I also had to get a new exhaust manifold flange gasket for the drivers side cat because it started to leak.

I doubt u will have to jack the motor up at all with shorties, i didn't have to touch that with my long tube pacesetters, i did have the front end 3 feet in the air though

i was going to put the car off the ground on jackstands all the way around the car to have plenty of room underneath the car to work. I have sprayed PB blaster on everything i can see pertaining to the manifolds. is there going to be enough room to get a torque wrench to tighten all the bolts down the same?

that sounds good, idk about the torque wrench, the only stuff i really use a torque wrench for is stuff dealing with the internals of the motor or the intake manifold, everything else if pretty much the german method, goot n tight, lol

Good luck fitting a torque wrench in there. Just use a ratchet or wrench.

just take ur time
it took me and a friend 12 hours to do headers and make duals, that was including an hour lunch break, so, id say 5-6 hours for headers, an hour or so for plug wires

Since you're doing headers, i would go to thunderracing.com, and buy the OTVC kit there. U have to cut the wires to length, but it will save many burnt wires in the future

He's going to do shorties though, so the stock wires should work out for him.

NGK plugs and Taylor wires are my favorite choices.
