installing headers on lt1

hey, this is my first post on this forum and i am looking for some advice.
I am going to put bbk shorty headers on my car this weekend and this is my first time to put headers on an lt1. Is there any "tricks" for a faster install? It looks to be very cramped area.
thanks alot

My best advice would be to buy a couple cans of PB Blaster and spray down all the old hardware and let it soak for a couple days before you begin dissassembly. Take your time and don't rush. It also wouldn't hurt to put in fresh plugs and wires either.

I agree with 2000gtp, plugs and wires will be the perfect time to do. It took me about up to 5-6hrs to do the job. It will be a pain, make sure u have plenty of bandaids! Also depending on the headers, dont be surprised if you need to jack up the engine a little to get the headers in place (drivers side). Just take ur time to do it right..

Don't get frusterated and if you do, step back and take a breather. PB blast is your friend!!! Use it like someone else bought it and spray every bolt/nut you can see. I soaked mine every day for a week before I tackled the job. You will most likely have to jack up the motor to get them in. If you have ever thought of doing motor mounts this would also be a great time to do them. I did mine because the car had over a 100,000 miles on it and I didn't want the headers to end up hitting and then have to go back and replace them after I was done with the install. Replace the plugs and wires while you are doing it. I had ceramic coated headers so when I put them in I actually left the plastic wrapping (plastic bags) that they were shipped in on the headers and wore cottom gloves. Oil from your hands can easily mess up the ceramic coating if you start the car and let them get hot.

Don't forget you will also need to get your computer tuned.

I used long tubes... I'm sure the shorties will be a little easier getting into the engine bay.

Alot of the work will be done underneath the car as that is how most of the bolts will be accessible.

why do yall regret getting the shortys?
I am going to start spraying Pb on the bolts tonight and i am going to try to do the install on saturday/sunday, but i will still be driving the car for the rest of the week. Whats plugs, wires would yall suggest getting? All i have done right now is a K&n CAI, but in the next few weeks i want to get an BBK underdrive set up on there.

ppl regret shorties because you can get a lot more power out of long tubes, underdrives are another mod that don't do too much for an LT1
