installing a harmonic balancer....help

installing a harmonic balancer....help

i have to reinstall my balancer and i figured to put it on just put it on and tightened down the center bolt ....well thats not working i am using a impact gun very strong .and still nothing .....any suggestions? thanks

Are you taking about the hub that holds the damper? This is an interferance fit part that needs to be pulled on the crank snout somehow. Using the crank bolt to pull the hub is just going to damage the threads in the crank, remeber these are fine threads.

its the center bolt on the dampner usually you slide it on and tightened it down ....its one bolt not 3

what year? Need to know if it's press-fit or keyed.

If its an LT1, its press fit, with no key.

Oh yeah you're right, my bad. Thunder Racing sells a keyed balancer hub for all LT1s, I should have noticed.

As stated above, you're lucky you didn't strip the threads In the future use a threaded rod. Thread the rod until it bottoms out in the crank snout. "Pull" the hub onto the crank snout by using a nut and washers (or a flat bearing) to tighten (pull) the hub into place. This will prevent stressing the threads in the crank.
