Installing a 10-12 gallon Fuel Cell, ever been done?? We might try it.
Installing a 10-12 gallon Fuel Cell, ever been done?? We might try it.
Has anybody ever done this, I havnt seen it done a a Camaro yet and I was thinking about doing it this winter. What all would I need to ie lines fittings etc. If I do I want to recess it done in the rear deck so the top sits flush with the deck and fab the rbrackets to hold in or buy the metal fuel cells that have the lip aornd the top that can be welded to the body. Would have to run new lines or just splice into the old ones. What would I do for a sending unit etc?
Thanks guys,

I researched this and don't think Summit or Jegs has a tank that will fit that large, but I also thought about it. I went the other direction and went with a 5 gallon cell and the car is now "Drag Strip Only". You can get a custom Fabricated tank but they are very expensive and yes you can have a 90 ohm sensor/sender installed. There is one problem, if you go to the strip the fuel tanks must be behind .032" thickness metal to protect the driver/passenger compartment as our cars are all one unless you have a convertable. I just fabricated one with a door for fuel filling it was time consuming and the 4x8 foot pc of aluminum (.040" thick) was $40.00 alone. Your looking at $289 for a good fuel pump and 8-an line is expensive but not as expensive as the fittings. If you don't plan on going to the track you still have the concern of a fuel tank in the same area as your passenger/s and you. Yes fuel cells are safe but ya just never know.

I've got an RCI 12 gallon fuel cell in my car. It sits in the rear space behind the rear seats and I have a couple inches clearance inbetween the cell and the back glass. I had enough room on both sides of the cell to even mount my new bottle. Hmmm, how convenient?

The tank maintains the stock sending unit so as to still have a gas gauge

Brent Linky no worky, i cant say cuz i didnt see the pics but im not talking about installing the tank on top of rear deck but recessing it down into the rear deck so as the top fits flush with the deck top. I did see that either summit or jegs did sell a 10 or 12 gallon aluminum fuel cell but i dont remember what the thickness was tho. But since the tank wont be directly exposed it should be alright.

For some reason my free tampabay.rr account doesn't allow hot linking anymore

Anyway, all you need to do is click on of my links above and then go to the end, hit the space bar, and then hit enter and it'll work

I like this setup (about 1/2 way down page):
http://www.ls1speed.com/catagory.cfm...m%20Components
Considering it's made for f-bodies, it'll save a lot of time. It's also reasonably priced.
