But then how could you ever get a closed loop tune that worked? No matter how you set the airflow tables up, unburnt a/f will always get in to the exhaust and always cause a false lean and cause the computer to add more fuel than desired.
Yes.

Some people can't get closed loop tunes to work. I ditched mine. DanK has got some big cams to work in closed loop, but it takes lots of time. Only cams with lots of overlap will cause this false lean condition and it can be a nightmare to get rid of.

TunerCAT is a great tuning program. Good luck and let us know how it runs when he gets done. Is he going to tune it in open loop?

your not the only one who had a problem with Ion, I wasted 150.00 on a mail order tune for my h/c car. and after tune put in, and car running really rich, he would not take the tune back to make some changes..he kept on saying it was something else with my car, I changed every sensor possible, 02's. plugs wires. new opti, when I did the h/c. he would not listen for $hit.he swore his tune was dead on, and my car was the problem.

wanted me to buy a moates box and make my own changes. well after some arguing, and noticing he wasn't going to stand behind his product and make any changes. I decided to get a live tune, and after around 4-5 hrs. of good tuning, my car being a 93' model. so having to take the chip in and out to reflash it. anyway car runs much better... blm's and integrators are much better. no longer pegging at 160... just a shame, he should atleast stand behind his product and help his customers. in my book he is not worth ****...get a dynotune..

It seems it is near impossible for Ion to every get back to people. I understand he is busy, however atleast updating his customers would be nice. I had the same problem with my tune running super rich. The plugs were extremely black, almost like oil. He said it was my GM847. Granted my car at WOT runs amazing and I am happy with his tuning, the car defiantly needed some drivabilty tune changes. I have his unlimited tune package and he hasnt gotten back to me in over 3 months. I think for his price though, you cant beat his tune. Dyno tuning is very expensive and time consuming, his mail order tunes are quick and pretty accurate for what you pay...

You do know that you can't change part throttle a/f, don't you? If the plugs are gas fouling at part throttle, then I would say that it is indeed your cam. Overlap causes a 'false' lean condition and the O2's will prompt the PCM to add fuel, making the car run extremely rich. It can be very difficult to part throttle tune a big cammed car to run near perfect in closed loop.

Yeah, I think when I do my cam and re-tune, I am going to go with PCM4Less. I would have gone with him to begin with but he was out of town and I needed it asap b/c my speedo was off pretty bad from my gear change. I have heard excellent things about PCM4Less, and wish i had just waited another week to go with him. Oh well, thats what happens when you are impatient. Also, when Brian returned from his vacation, I had a response to an e-mail I sent him the very next day. Just to get my core refund from Ion, I had to call him, because about 2 weeks after I sent my old computer in, I still hadn't heard anything or seen any money. I tried to e-mail him but he wouldn't respond, so I called and he said it was sitting there in a box, he just hadn't gotten to it yet...I really wanna dynotune my car when I do a cam though.

Yah, I know. He just wasnt getting back to me after a while. I was wanting a leaner tune in general because it was still running rich according to my datalogger. But like I stated, for $50 for a life time of email tunes, you get what you pay for. He did a great initial job and even resent me one other tune. I just wish he had a little more time.

i also bought the 36lb inyectors, and put the LT4 KM the car is bad than ever without tune, but i know now that needs a lot of tuning with the inyectors at 36lb,i also forgot if the fuel pressure regulator was need to for the tuning or helps more to make the things easier.

thanks a lot for your help.

Did your buddy tune the car to stay in open loop? Do not get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Unless you plan on putting nitrous or some sort of FI application on the car, you don't need it. Spend the money somewhere else. Also, I bet the car is running rich as hell with 36lb injectors on stock tuning. WARNING: DO NOT RUN THE CAR FOR VERY LONG WITH THE INJECTORS LIKE THAT!! You'll wash the cylinders down with fuel and it can cause major damage. Put the stock injectors back in it until you can get it tuned.

you may have opti or other ignition problems now but as far as the tune goes, I would get a tune from PCMforless and then make minor sdjustments to that.

The average tuner has not done as many LE H/C set ups as Bryan and he can get you real close from the start.

I paid $400 for a dyno tune and the car never ran right. I bought a mail order tune from Bryan and it was like night and day difference. It id;ed better, ran smoother, accelerated better at EVERY RPM, did not surge on converter lock up, etc.

I "wish" I would have had Bryan do the tune first and THEN had someone tweak Bryans tune for final adjustments.

just hang in there and you'll get it and be happy with it.

I was about "this" close to just putting a carb and dist. in mine so I could tune the thing. I am glad I fought with it a lil longer and the new tune with new 7 MM Oreilleys plug wires made ALL the difference in the world.
