I'm having troubles with running issues...
Well as the description says, I just purchased my 96' SS. Well every week or so my car will randomly when started run like total ***, it will chug, backfire, die, and when I step on the gas even to try and keep it running, it does nothing. Well all of a sudden it has been doing it a lot this past couple of days, it got bad enough yesterday that I couldn't get the car started at all. So I left it at my place of work, and came back an hour later, and it started and ran like it was brand new. I also long before that took it to a shop and they said it was misfiring, because I thought my clutch was bad, and found out it is in great shape. I need to know what is wrong with it. I had to replace the waterpump a couple of weeks back, because the seal inside was bad, the opti-spark was really dirty, so we took it off and cleaned it carefully, wether or not it was salvagable I don't know.
One other thing, my Oil Pressure gage is constantly running way low. But the car runs fine, the oil is in great shape, and there aren't any leaks, save the one seal in the front I didn't get put in right.
But is there any reason that the gage should be reading that low, maybe a bad sender in the pan?

Re: I'm having troubles with running issues...
Oil pressure sender is not in the pan it's behind the intake on the drivers side. OP could be low due to low idle speed,to thin of an oil or just internal wear,or oil filter brand.
Ya need to recheck the opti, ignition module, and coil. It sounds like the problem is due to heat and any one of these if they overheat will cause it not to run or run right when hot. Might want to check your plug wires in the dark also to see if they are arching.
