i'm getting knock retard!!!

hi there,

i'm getting knock retard... and i dont like it.. ussally its a .3 to 3.5 range according to my scanmaster. i just finished my cam 700 miles ago... along with exhaust.

what can i do.... can bad plugs and a coil make knock? i have new wires...and they aren't burnt. i kinda have a crappy idle after 10 seconds or so with the brake on? can a dyno tune help me find this?

First you need to determine whether it is picking up "true knock" or "false knock". True knock often arises from low octane fuel, excessive inlet air temp, excessive coolant temps, too much timing advance, oil contamination of the A/F mixture, excessive compression ratio, including carbon buildup effects. Put a tank of 100 octane unleaded in there and see if the problem persists. I've seen a "bad" tank of Sunoco 94 cause the levels of knock retard you are reporting, a problem quickly fixed with a fresh tank of fuel.

If the high octane fuel doesn't solve the problem, then you need to look at sources of false knock, and that can include any mechanical noises that would reach the tiny microphone that is the knock sensor.

i have the KM and i'm using edelbrock shorties... the car is strong... but i'm worried. put in some octane booster (NOS) and it went away for a bit.. then i filled back up.

just incase... i purchased a short block on ebay. and i'm gonna rebuild that if anything happens to mine.

can plugs or ignition cuase KR... or is it just mechanical noises.
can bad tuning cause KR?
