Idle problem

My car has developed a problem idling with cold starts.

It doesn't die, but rpms are up and down until it warms up.
After the car enters closed loop, it 'seems' to be fine...as in no power loss and it idles steady. If the A/C is on in open loop, the car will die at idle.

My wideband (LC1) reads lean in open loop (16:1-18:1...sometimes in the 19s), but once in closed loop it drops to what I guess is a normal 14.5:1-15.2:1. Shouldn't the car run rich in open loop?

It isn't too big of an issue, but I look like a jackass revving the engine at a stoplight until the thing enters closed loop...although a grandma did race me the other day. I let her win out of respect .

No scans/logs yet because my PC decided not to recognize the adapter to plug into the car pcm. I'm reloading the software, so maybe a scan later today. There is no SES light either.

Suggestions? 02s, IAC, TPS, Vacuum, MAF?

You may want to try cleaning your intake manifold. I had a similar problem although it wasn't as bad as you describe. I had a friend of mine sit in the car and keep RPMS around 2000-2500 as i sprayed a couple cans of B-12 chemtool in it. I used 2 cans because they were cheap and i wanted to make sure it was nice and clean. I would also check the air filter to make sure it isn't clogged. Just my .02.

But you now have a problem with high idle. Which b-12 Chemtool did you use? They make several different products by that name, and they are intended to be added to the fuel, at least all the products I could find listed under that name on their website.

Check your coolant temp sensor. When the coolant is cold, the PCM should be setting A/F ratios as rich as 4:1. However, if you still have the AIR pump, and its working, you will not get 4:1 on your wideband.
