idle problem

idle problem

when my 96 Z is idling sometimes it will idle correctly and other times it will idle real low like 500rpm's it also will sometimes shut off when at idle. I did get rid of my cats and my o2 sensors are obvisouly not funtional...any ideas why the bad idle?

Idle air control may be dirty. Also check for vacuum leaks.

The IAC could very well be dirty but that usually makes it idle too high since the pintle can't get close enough to shut er down. Your problem sounds like a sticky EGR. You ought to pull it out and see how dirty that thing is.
