The computer really likes to have all the sensor inputs, so your engine can run correctly.

I don't even think the IAT can be (sanely) tuned out.

anyone know how much a new one is? I just got a SES light for the IAT. How far down does it go(the other end you cant see)? Does it plug in somewhere under the intake elbow?

I forgot to plug mine in once and it got chewed up by the engine because it was dangling there. Can't say as though I really noticed it was gone, IIRC the check engine light came on but I didn't notice a drivability problem.

they are pretty cheap at only 15 bucks at most. yes it is the only sensor on the elbow.

It started throwing codes after my last K&N recharge. Perhaps I used to much oil and it gummed up the sensor?

I reset the SES light, im gonna wait till it comes back on. Hopefully this is the only code its throwing. If it comes back IAT, i will replace it.

You can't "gum up the sensor". Its a variable resistor (thremistor) encased in a housing. The SES light will only come on if the indicated inlet air temp is irrationally high or low (circuit voltage under 0.46V or over 4.96V).

Has anyone verified what affect it has on the PCM in MAF sensor cars?

At the very least, there is a table relating IAT to spark advance (in the LT1 PCM).

Mine went out and my datamaster was reading negative
130 degree temps. Naturally at those temps, my PCM
was flooding my motor with fuel.

It would only affect fueling in a speed-density 93, as you have... would not do the same on the MAF engines. The default reading in the ECM for an open circuit is typically -40degF. Never saw one read lower than that.

You're right. I looked back thru my old datalogs and it was
actually -36.4. It was indicating this temp in both open loop and
closed loop. When it would go into closed loop it would almost
stall the motor out with all the excess fuel.
