So how much am I looking at if I have Lloyd or advanced induction do them? I really appreciate you guys posting your flow numbers. I'm not sure what it is going to cost me to get my heads done locally. If its about the same as one of your guys porters then I will probably opt for that.
Thanks guys!

Look, pretty much everyone is telling you "its all in the heads".....

SO WHY ARE YOU HAVING YOUR local headporter do the work when you can have phill @ www.advancedinduction.com do them.....

GREASE IS HITTING OVER 400 RWHP WITH THE ECONO PORT HEADS...... Imagine if he would have went with the full ports....

So that leads me to the next ?, Grease how much more rwhp do you think you would have got with the full ports?

you should choose a machinist who has experience doing small block heads, or get one of the guys mentioned in this thread who has gotten great numbers out of stock LT1 heads. your machinist should insist on choosing the cam himself. if your machinist is telling you to look elsewhere for the cam choice, you should be looking elsewhere for the machine work.

also, forget about dyno numbers. 400 rwhp NA from stock LT1 heads and a hydraulic roller is no big deal. my heads flow 262/226 @ .550 lift and my cam is a comp custom grind hydraulic roller (230/236 duration @ .050, .602/.608 lift on a 1.6 rocker, 112 lsa). my car went 114.8 mph with that valvetrain on the stock bottom end and went 119.84 mph with that valvetrain last week in my new 383 with a tune from somebody else's car.

I looked at advanced inductions site and I flat out don't have 1700 to spend on head work, plain and simple. I forget how much the econo port is, but still, aside from the 1/2 port job or whatever thats $500...........its just too much for me. I will get a quote from my guy and if it is gonna cost me upwards of that amount I will probably go with it, but I don't think it will be that much. We shall see. He is one of 2 really great head porters in the area........I'm not worried about him doing a bad job. I'll test em on the cam thing though, hehe.
Thanks guys

The cam helps a little bit though.

Waswa.
so with my 266/203@.600 and cc306 i should be able to make 400 right?

I forwarded the flow numbers you guys are getting to make sure he can match or do better than them. I want to thank all you guys for your help. I will probably be back here asking about a cam at some point, just to make sure he picks a good one for me!

There is something that I think everyone misses when talking about porting LT1 heads. The INTAKE. You can port all you want on the heads, but unless you know what the hell you are doing with the intake you will get 220-230 cfm total as an end result. If your porter/machinist does not have proven results with the LT1 go somewhere else. Also some of you guys posting great numbers: do you realize how low of a number most of your heads flow when hooked back up to that intake? Get your intake and heads flowed as a unit.

I did a home port on my heads/intake after getting some insider tips from a local shop that has a national reputation for porting (they do Nascar 'Cup' stuff). My car still has the stock cam, and pulls 30 hp more and 40 trq more than other well ported/cammed cars (and is about .4 faster in the 1/4 so it isn't just a dyno racer). I pull 343rwhp/356rwtrq with longtubes, 1.6 rockers, and stock cam. You MUST look at the heads and intake in the LT1 as a whole unit.

Porting the intake.........I didn't think of that. However I do recall reading that it typically wasn't needed or something to that effect. Is it really that big of a deal? If it will yield me more power I will do it up for sure.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks

my intake's never been touched. maybe my car wouild be fast if the intake was "port-matched" to the heads.

porting an LT1 intake is an old wive's tale...

That wa my impression also, however he also is claiming some very nice numbers. What do you guys think? Worth it or not? Also, I have 1 3/4 inch FLP's into GMMG, should I consider going to 1 7/8 headers or will that be excessive? I'm not sure at what power level 1 7/8 become useful. Hpoefully I will be 550 or so rwhp on a 150 shot. Also, might it be beneficial to add a cutout after the Y?
I appreciate all the help
Brian
edit: i also have a 52mm TB now, will I need to consider the 58mm?
