You mean get a set of heads ported and find a cam by the lift #'s after they were benched?

yes, if you want to put down good numbers to take the most advantage of your combo (not just high rpm) a spec'd camshaft for a specific combination is gonna do the most for you (area under the curve, peak HP+TQ, driveability etc.)

its almost been concrete proven that custom cams matched to heads make same or more power than bigger shelf cams.

Tell me about your 355. What kind of internals will you be going with? Stock crank or aftermarket?

more then likely stock crank. if i have to buy a crank i will build a stroker. nothing fancy......6" rods, forged pistons,in the range of 11.4-12:1 compression. also will be doing a solid roller, and different style intake.

So does this sound like a plan..........have my head porter port the heads then get a custom cam based on how he does, lol. Should I have him give me a race port or what? What kind of numbers should I be looking for/expecting in order to hit the goal? As for the cam, could combo motorsports do it up for me? I got the cam from them and hopefully they would let me return it if I go this route. My head porter said he could do the heads to match the cam, but if its as hard as you say...........The more details that you can provide me the faster I can go, hehe.
Thanks for all the help!
Brian

Well your a six speed so you got that going for you far as dyno racing is concerned, so yea with heads, lts, electric water pump it should roll 390-400. My friends auto with a 230/236, IRS heads, auto, LTs was pulling 380s and trapping 117s full weight.

True, that will be helpful, but I definitely don't want to come up short on my goal. I want to get that 400rwhp NA mark. If some of you smarter fellas can tell me what I should look for out of my ported LT1 heads for flow in terms of numbers and what not that would be helpful. I want as much as I can get. I know someone threw out a number earlier..........What about recommendations for who should set me up with a cam?
Thanks
Brian

Could get the flow sheet and plug it into desktop dyno. Then start playing with the cam specs

recommendations for a cam.....Joe Overton (do a search on here under that name) of Lethal EFI Performance
who'd ya say was doing your heads? maybe ask your head guy for a recommendation for a cam or to someone who knows what they are doing
you said you wanted an idea on good head numbers, out of a stock LT1 casting, these are mine, here ya go....
Lift/Intake/Exhaust
.100/65I/53E
.200/143I/111E
.300/193I/147E
.400/237I/178E
.500/264I/182E
.550/269I/187E
.600/271I/191E
you're not gonna get much better then that out of a stock casting those are done by www.advancedinduction.com and have 2.00/1.56 Farrea 6000 SS valves

another good head porter that people seem to rave about lately is Lloyd Elliot aka: NightTrain66
