I think i just got screwed by dal slabaugh [lockitup@bright.net]

This one goes along with another post i posted earlier HERE

Bascily i ordered a LT4 starter from dal slabaugh last thursday, received it on wedsday (paid extra for second day shipping) and when it came in and i opened the box, to my suprise the starter looked a little funny....(pictures of the starter on bottom of page)
basicly Ive come to the conclusion that they sent me a core instead of an actual NEW stater. well thinking this was an honest mistake i call on wedsday and there is no one their that can help me.

so i write and email descibing the situation

"Hi there, I don’t know if you remember me but a couple of days ago I ordered an lt4 starter from you.
My contact info is

****
*******
********

Well I second day shipped it and I received it today (took a little longer than expected but that’s ok).
Well anyways I received the starter today and it was in horribly condition. As far as I knew, I thought all lt4 starters where new while lt1 starters where reman. But I must say even if that's a reman. it's deplorable to send it out looking like how I got it.
I don’t mean any insult but i've seen starters in junk yards that looked like they where in better condition than the one I received.
Now here is the situation.
I ordered the starter from you and paid extra for second day shipping. My car is my only mode of transportation and is very badly needed for work and transportation. I know this is not your problem but I would appreciate it if you would understand the situation I am in. I tried giving you a call today (2:30) and no one answered. I doubt you will be there for Thanksgiving and if i'm lucky the soonest I will get into contact with you is Friday. Then the time it will take for me to send you this one back and receive a new one will be another couple of days. So basically I will be out of a car for 5 days or so, more than expected because of an error on the dealerships behalf.
I have links at the bottom of the page of pictures of the starter I received.
I'm sure you'll agree with me that it is unfair and unprofessional business practice to send such an item to a customer. Please don’t take this letter as hostility towards you or the dealership because I really appreciate the great price and excellent service that you provided. This is the second time I have done business with you and I always recommend others to your establishment. It's just that I have a situation on my hands and am in very desperate need to have it resolved. Thanks for your time.

well they where closed on thanksgiving of course and no one answered the phone in the parts depo on friday, so i call today and they tell i wont be able to even TALK to anyone about the issue until monday....so basicly im out of a car for atlest 7 days becuase someone made a mistake and sent me a F****** core instead of a new part and charged me for SECOND day shipping to get it.

Has anyone else ever had problems like this with the dealership or am i the only one??

Ill keep you guys updated about the whole situation

And most importantly, if any of you are thinking about ordered from dal slabaugh , i would URGE you to reconsider, and get the parts through JASON CRHOMER. i know from know on thats who im ordering my parts from

thanks guys

The last I knew, Dal doesn't even work in the same building that parts are shipped out of. I ordered an opti from him last year and it was broke when I recieved it. After calling him to let him know I found out he works at a totally different place and doesn't actually ship things out himself. So its very possible someone made an honest mistake.

Oh and BTW he sent me a new opti out the next day for free and included a shipping label to send the old one back, which was paid for. He was very professional and apologized for everything. I would just call Monday and explain the situation. He is a very nice guy, but is busy as hell so mistakes are made.

I've had 6 or 7 good experiences buying from Dal.... Probably an honest mistake & then you got caught up in the holliday vacation schedule. If you dont have it already the number I use for him is 877-448-5451. Every time I called that number he answered the phone himself. I'm sure he'll get you straightend out as he is one of the few good guys out there.

Re: I think i just got screwed by dal slabaugh [lockitup@bright.net]

I posted in the other thread also..
While it is very inconvenient for you, [and the holiday sure isn't helping], I wouldn't go so far as to say he screwed you, until you see what he says and whether they make good on it, etc..
This is the down side of doing 'mail order' parts.. [mistakes take a longer time to rectify etc]
You might console yourself some with the fact that a LOCAL dealer would have charged about 300 or so[plus sales tax.. 6% here]..
It did cost about 150 right?
I do sympathize with the bad timing and long time without the car tho..
Now if he doesn't 'make good' then that's another story..
I have never used Dal, but haven't ever heard a bad thing about him..
Hopefully monday will straighten it all out.. My feeling is he should overnite you one right away.. I'd call him first thing monday..

Re: I think i just got screwed by dal slabaugh [lockitup@bright.net]

Not wanting to sound like an A-hole but that dirt and oil on the starter did not get rubbed off after all the Handling and shiping... I may be wrong but it didnt even transfer onto those bubble wrapps I see in the background... was that thing wrapped in those things? I only see one part where the dirt got rubbed off.

Now dont get pissy about my observatios.... they are just that, my observations. I am not implying you are a liar oor something ... maybe the other side of the starter is what got royally molested and I cant see that in the pics.

If I am wrong.. I apologize in advance.

Edit: you sure you didnt ****-off Dal or something ??

Re: I think i just got screwed by dal slabaugh [lockitup@bright.net]

Well MR observational genius
The item was shipped as a box within a box, the smaller AC Delco box was wrapped in bubble wrap on the outside and was placed a larger brown box

Why must there always be some conspiracy theorist that always thinks things aren’t as they really are.

I only post this for those who are considering puchasing something from Dal to wait up and see what happens with this situation. im doing it for THEIR protection just like someone would announce if they got ripped off by another user on the board. if you want to see the two boxes look at pic 1 (acdelco) and 5 ( big brown box)

anyways like the previous posts say, i think its a honest mix up that the holidays didnt help any but nonthless i am out in the cold without a car for more than a week because of an error made on THEIR behalf. put yourself in my shoes and the situation isnt so fun, but im a very understanding person as you can see by the email i wrote to him, but calling the dealership and being told no one is there to help me until monday doesnt put my frustration to rest.

hmmm, i got a nice new clean LT4 starter from him about a year ago....works awesome, looked awesome

maybe someone that works there pulled a starter off to be rebuilt and stuck it in a new LT4 box when they replaced it off a car and it got put back on the shelf by mistake...*shrugs*

i'm sure he will take care of the situation in a professional manner

I have ordered many, MANY items from Dal, know a hundred guys who have done the same and will continue to do so. I'm sure it's an honest mistake, and I'm sorry you got hung up. And yes, Dal works across the street from the parts department, in a seperate building. I'm quite sure he had nothing whatsoever to do with the poor shipping of this starter.

Dal is about as busy a guy as I know...he was probably on a short vacation over the holidays. I'm sure he'll rectify the situation come Monday morning.

I hardly think you "got screwed". Sounds like a simple mistake that they haven't had time to rectify yet. I have ordered many thousands of dollars of stuff from Dal over the years and the service has been great as well as the prices.

I know what happened to you sucks but, as you can see many of us have ordered parts from Dal (including myself) and have not been screwed. I know my expierance was VERY good, I ordered an opti about 3 months ago. I had him send it normal shipping and it took 3 days to get. He was the cheapest and I will DEFINATLY order more parts from him.

Re: I think i just got screwed by dal slabaugh [lockitup@bright.net]

I have bought a few items from Dal's dealership, in person. They have 3 car lots over 2 different roads. The service shop, parts department, and offices are on one side of the main road and the over stock building is on the other side. Each time I buy something I have to go to the parts desk in the service shop and if they do not stock it there (most LT1 stuff they dont) its across the road. You pay for it while your at the parts desk then someone walks you over to the storage building and retrieves the parts for you. The older gentleman who always helps me, gets the parts, and opens them up for my approval at the second building. Each time the whole transaction has been smooth, simple, and problem free. I felt extremely valued as a customer and gave the staff several compliments which I usually dont do very often.

As for your experience, I'd be pissed, but knowing what I have seen I person each visit I have made, there must have been a grave misunderstanding. I dont understand how that part is so oiled and used looking. If they are anything like the dealership I know you'll not pay for shipping anymore and get the product you paid for soon. I'd make a request for that, which I am sure you are already going to do. Just let them know that you have made it known to the general population online, which consists of 50,000+ members. Good Luck, and when I was there I didnt get help from Dal, I think he is just a contact man who is extremely busy, but everyone there is generally very helpful and educated.

I think you are posting in an attempt to put pressure on Dal to make it good. I don't think your actions are noble at all.

You posted you thought this to be an honest mistake, made worse by the holidays, then why did even post "I think i just got screwed by dal slabaugh [lockitup@bright.net]". You contradict yourself.

If you are in the bind that you are in for a car, then you probably should have spent the extra $30 on the cost of a starter at your local dealership instead of spending the $30 on FedEx to order it from Dal.

That way, in case there is a problem, your have immediate and local recourse, instead of long distance and have to wait.

When schedule is the concern over cost, use the means of least resistance and be prudent on cost. When you have lots of time, then you have the luxury of waiting on parts ...

I've bought a ton of parts from Dal. Some I got were wrong, but everything was made right. It took some time, but it all worked out. Ordering from Dal via the net or by phone is no different than getting the parts from your local dealership. Sometimes things get mislabeled or the part number gets screwed up. **** happens.

Saying you got screwed by Dal is just plain wrong. If you got bad parts, it was a mistake of the dealership. Posts the erroneously attack people's good reputation **** me off.

I would say you got cores that had been put back in the box that a new starter came out of. Probably someone has their stock mixed up and is sending out the ones destined for the rebuilder. Also, when you deal with ANYONE around the holidays, you have to expect more delay.
