I need some help, fuel pump issue!!!!
I almost ran out of gas last night coming home. It was starting to sputter so I pulled into a gas station to fill up. After I was done paying I started my car up and it ran, but not very well. It was really hesitant, then after about 30 sec it died on me. I had it towed to a chevy dealer and the quoted my $1100 for a freaking fuel pump, filter, and relay. That price include labor. Does that sound right, or should I be going somewhere else. Please let me know what you all think. Thanks.
hmmm i think i might be having a fule related problem to......
did it start up again after it dies.....my car gets very hisitant then dies...but then it starts up again....

take your car home and do it yourself if you have the time. I did it the right way dropping the tank and all it it tokk about 3 hours everything done, but the dame stock pump is like $300 its self. I would say by and after market one from racetronics and search on here for the install guide for the "trap door" fuel pump install i hear it is alot quicker
$1100 is kind of steep. At $70.00 per hour, that is over charging. If you take out $500.00 for parts, that leaves 8.5 hours of labor at $70.00 per hour. An inexperienced person might take 4 or 5 hours but a shop can do it in 2. No, they see you coming a mile away. Don't do it there. If you want to F!@# with them, ask them how many hours the shop manual calls to do that job. Do a little quick math in front of them and tell them they aren't going to screw you over. Get an OEM pump and do it yourself.
.
I am in the process of doing the Trapdoor fuel pump replacement. I bought the Granatelli fuel pump from Summit for $130.00 and I'm doing it myself. It will save you lots of money and if you get to some part of the swap you don't understand, then post a question like I did to get it done. The pump is located at the center top front and is easy to access if you have some tools and time. I bought some sheetmetal cutters at Lowes and they have helped smooth the job alot. It's not a hard task. Just follow directions.

Do the job yourself. Go out and get yourself a Walbro, cut yourself a trapdoor, and laugh, both at how easy it is , and how much money you saved.
