I need a good start!
I need a good start!
Ok guys, i defently need to start doing some more mods very soon. So far my mods are in my sig. And also keep this in mind that i am 17 years old and the bank doesnt roll in so fast but i think im doing alright. I was thinking about doing a torque converter but i have 90K Miles on my car with the stock trans and i think it would be a waste because only time can tell before the trans goes. If i was to do a stall what kind of stall should I do? Also, I really want to cam my car. I was thinking the LT4 Hot Cam, but does EVERYTHING i need come in the hot cam kit that i could buy at like lmperformance.com or do i need to buy any other parts a long with it? If anyone could think of any other mods that would wake my LT1 up it would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Re: I need a good start!
No the lt4 hotcam kit does not come with everything... you also need to buy gaskets and fix anything that you break when performing the swap. I would got with the convertor route. I put one in my 100k plus miles tranny and it still works fine. I would go with a 3200 rpm vig stall. Then you could sell all that sound system stuff and buy a heads cam kit from llyod(www.eportworks.com). Believe me im 19 and i sold all my stereo stuff to my little brother, i got tired of it.
Re: I need a good start!
Oh ya and i see that you dont have headers. Some nice long tube headers would help you out. Gears are also a good mod. Search around on this board as there are plenty of threads about which gears to choose.
Re: I need a good start!
Lol i havent drank in a LONG time i now see you have 3.73 gears... good choice. Now get some headers or a stall. Or you could just disregard any info from me cause i shouldn't drink...and i only had like 5 shots.
Re: I need a good start!
haha, well i have emissions and if i get headers i would have to go with shorties. I've been told all headers are a pain to install and take plenty of time to do is this true? Also, would 1.6rr's make any kind of difference power wise for me? I think i am going to go with a 3000 stall converter and bbk shorties. If i get bbk shorties will i need to get a Y-pipe also?
Re: I need a good start!
BBK shorties should hook up to the stock y-pipe. Unfortunatly the only option for an aftermarket y-pipe is going to cost you about $450, so its not worth doing. Beside, if you have emissions to worry about, don't mess with it unless you have a smog buddy, its a real pain in the ***. I would do the torque converter, it'll help with those gears. Do the cam later, when you can afford to fix the motor if you spin the bearings. Sometimes when you install a cam in a higher mileage car, the bearings get spun, meaning you have no car until a rebuild...
Re: I need a good start!
Alright sounds good. Looks like im going to go with the torque converter and BBK shorties then. I don't have $$ for a rebuild just incase i spin the bearings with the cam. But hopefully itll be cammin in the near future of course, lol. If i were to do a 2400 stall or a 2800 stall approximately would i loose a .2-.4 off of my et's?
