I Need Distributor replacement help
Here is a url to the opti summit says to replace mine with but I thought only 93-94 are interchangeable. It says 94-97 aplication.

Re: I Need Distributor replacement help
The first listing for the GM part is incorrect with regard to the Pontiac and Camaro applications. The B-Body applications are correct (94-96) because I think they got the vented Opti a year earlier.
The second listing for the MSD unit is vented because MSD vents both the 93/94 spline drive units and the 95-97 cam dowel pin units.
The true difference is the drive mechanism. The "venting" is coincidental.

No. Find the correct GM/AC Delco/Delphi unvented, splined drive shaft unit. But Summit's price is too high on that unit. PN 10457702.

Re: I Need Distributor replacement help
Been looking into distributors myself, found a low price company "chandler motorsports" which sells distributors at a very low price with a lifetime warranty. I haven't found any negative feedback on their product and have checked around a few forums as well. An opti for the 94 camaro with a lifetime warranty is just over $160. I'm probably going to go with it when I have the funds. Maybe you can check into those as well.

If you haven't found any negative feedback on the Chandler unit, you need to hone your "search" skills......
. They are a disaster, like all the other aftermarket copies.

I appreciate the warning. So basically if you don't go with ac/delphi/gm you're going to be screwed huh? Now that you mentioned that I actually found a thread ppl have posted on ls1tech on the chandler optis. It seems they have a hard customer service base with people not being able to get through, and also their product has a DOA rate which is ridiculous. But there are also a lot of people who claim to have no problems with the opti and great customer service and warranty work. Still may be an option for a cheaper priced alternative for the time being. Solely based off the fact I can't afford an ac delco unit or equivalent, but I'm trying.

What it comes down to is how much do you like to gamble?
All Chandler units will not fail. All GM units will not work flawlessly. It's the failure rate that is the issue. The only data I have is what I've been reading over a period of more than 10 years on forums like this (and I frequent many). Everytime someone say "buy only GM", someone will post they've been running a Summit or an Accel or a Chandler or a WangChungDung Chinese copy for two years with no problems. OK... they got lucky, but what about all the other people who had problems out of the box, or within the first few weeks.
If you get a lifetime warranty, you know the seller will replace it with no questions asked, in a convenient manner, and you don't mind ripping apart the front of the engine once in a while, the $160 unit may be fine for you.
You pays your money and you takes your chances.
