How "new" are these heads? And does anyone have a pair?

I'm sure reverse flow is offered. I'll email them and see.

I just got an email from AFR and they don't offer LTX castings.

A friend of mine, Tony Shepard, runs these heads on on his 8 second 4th Gen. I guess they are converted to LTx. But, I notice that AFR offers true LTx style AFR 227's that flow outstanding out of the box, though it appears that you may need offset (.050) rockers or shaft rockers. Still, nice to see they are still making good stuff for us 'underdogs'.
AFR 227's flows(from their site)
  • .550 - 312/234
  • .600 - 319/238
  • .650 - 324/241
  • .700 - 327/243

They are SBC heads, so just have them converted for reverse cooling.

Re: I must have been living under a rock. When did these AFR 235 heads come out?

As mentioned I do run the AFR 235 head. Just had to convert them to reverse cooling (drill two oil drain back holes and move over a coolant passage). Mine have not been touched by a head porter and are out of the box CNC'ed from AFR.

One thing I will say is the 235 head is designed for a larger bore than what our blocks can handle. The heads are for a 4.125 bore and if you bolt them on a 4.030-4.060 bore LT1 block the valves are shrouded. Now granted they do work well for me but the potential is not there until I can get a larger bore block.

With that said, The AFR 227 head works very well for the LT1 bore size and is a direct bolt on. As stated you do need offset rockers though. Very nice heads!
