I keep hitting rev limiter in an auto
I keep hitting rev limiter in an auto
What would cause this? I don`t know why it keeps hitting my rev limiter. It is supposed to shift at 5700 rpms, but it doesn`t. I need to figure this out soon because I have nitrous kit that I want to have installed. It shuts my fuel off when I hit the rev limiter. I don`t want to hear my car go BOOM if that happens and I am spraying.

It means that you are about to spend some major money on rebuilding your tranny....
I know....Mine did the same thing for a little while and then it just died one day.

It isn`t slipping and it shifts hard. Could it still be the trans?
No
The first thing you want to do is check your fluid level. I don't know your knowledge level, so don't think I'm insulting you by suggesting this. Be sure and check it while the car is running and on a level surface. The next thing to do if your fluid is at the correct level is look at the color and smell it. Is it brown and does it have an acrid sort of burnt smell to it? If so, go pay the $139 to get the fluid sucked and the filter changed. You might consider a filter change, anyway. If all of this yeilds the same result, you are definitely having a clutch slippage issue. It will then be time for a rebuild or purchase of a "netgearheads" refurb. I'm sorry if it is the latter.

Is it really hitting the rev limit or is it just hesitating at a lower point the the accuall rev limit. I had a hesitation problem at lower rpms that acted like it was hitting the rev limit and it just turned out to be my ignition coil and module...
I've got a 700R4 on Ebay this week. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...item=2400263547
Dont know if youd be interested but I have a 4L60E that I just took out of my Z it shifts perfectly and hard and has a transgo shift kit already installed. It has 42K on and was used with a tranny cooler.

Shifts when I shift it or when the computer tells it to if I don't manually shift.
