I think I may be having this problem with my A4. I say may be because it olny does it at the end of 1st gear as it shifts into 2nd. It sounds like it may hit the rev limiter for a "split" second then it shifts into second. And it only does it when I break the tires loose. Is this something to be worried about?

Sounds like you are just messing with the computers mind ... spinning the tires through an up shift ...

You could get around this by getting an editor program and raising the rev limiter a 100 rpm or so. That would keep the safety of the engine limiter there, but would allow a little more leeway when you get "frisky".

FWIW, any time you add a POWER ADDER, you will exacerbate that transmission problem, of hitting the rev limiter on the up shift. Since I've gone with boost and a stall converter, I've had to lower my shift points 2 - 3 mph AND raise the rev limiter to 5,900 rpm ...

The computer is only expecting so much, and when you exceed those expected inputs things get a bit funny.

Hope this helps

Thumbs up

Mine did the same thing. Now I have to buy a new tranny.First mine would bounce off the rev limiter. Now it also won't hold back in 2,D but 1and OD are fine.I also have N2O,so I even rasied my rev limiter. Sorry to break the news but it sounds like your in the same boat as me, time for a new or rebuild tranny.

Just a thought... what if your coil wire was going bad and setting a "rev limiter" at a low RPM. It wouldn't allow the RPMs to get high enough to shift at full throttle and could possibly give strange signals to the computer which could affect the shift points (TPS, MAF, VSS, etc). Just want to be sure your ignition is on the up and up...

I don't think I have the same problem but i'll tell ya anyway.

The tranny shifted hard and solid on stock PCM.
Used the HPP to firm up shifts, worked fine.
Got the PCMforless from bryan and then they bounced on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, very firm none the less.
I think I may have had him program the PCM for 3.23 gears when i only have 2.73's.
Put stock PCM in with HPP programming and everything is back to normal...I think it was just my retardation that got the rev to bounce...

I have the same exact problem as you wicked, with a pcmforless unit.

hits the rev limiter on the 1-2, 2-3, **** bad. wastes time, it just waits there and then shifts after ot bangs on it.. pisses me off to no end. Not only that, it revs too high, I'm talking 6400 rpm, way past my power peak at 6000 rpm.

I'm gonna have a local buddy fix the pcm. lower the rev limited and just make it shift right..

also, i scanned the pcm with a GM scanner and all the solenoids etc tested ok, so it doesn't necesarilly mean the tranny is bad. if it continues like this, then you might have a problem.

its the tranny.. its bad... thats life..
I went through 6 in 3 years on my LT1..

I found my best tranny at AAmco.. oddly enough. and it comes with warranty.. All my others were are performance shops and were not impressive.. they failed before 13K miles..

Exclamation

I had a 94 a-4 a couple of years ago. I did a gear swap and used
the hypertech programmer afterwards. After this my car would not shift out of 1st at full throttle. It would bang the rev limiter until I backed off a bit, then it shifted to 2nd. I tried moving rev limiter and shift points up and down but never solved it. Shortly after this I had a shift kit installed. It was a VERY hard 1-2 shift. It would chirp the tires even at light normal driving. About 2 months of this suddenly the shift became softer (over a 12 hour period) until it would not chirp the tires at all. Traded it for a harley at this point!

does it hit the rev limiter all the time ?? or is it only when you havent given the tranny ample time to reach operating temperature??

My car has 39,000 miles and it would smack the rev limiter every once in a while after i changed to 373 gears. I used the hpp3 to change my gear ratio but left shift points the same. I also added shift firmness. but i was still smackin the rev limiter so......I raised the rev limiter to 6600 ( even tho i dont rev it that high) and I dont hit the rev limiter anymore. still shifts hard too. So i dont think my tranny is going bad....however im not sure how mong it will last once my 383 stroker is done

My car will hit it every time at WOT when going from 1-2 and half the time when going from 2-D. Is there a way I can or a transmission shop can check to see if it is slipping?
