which valve is the intake and which is exhaust? front to back

Bigger one is intake.

umm yeah but the heads are on so how do i tell?

Look at where the headers come off. Those are the exhaust. OR if intake is off, where the intake ports are, those are intake. Thats the easiest way

No, that's when you drop #7 or # 8 exhaust valve:

E-I-I-E-E-I-I-OH!

Of course this is for SBC up thru LT1.

LS1, SB2, and almost everyone else has another pattern.

Anyone know the REAL reason the original SBC valve arrangement was configured this way?
